Remanufactured 281 sohc

Had really bad week-end with the pony. Blew head gasket between 2 cylinders, smashed a spark plug on one cylinder and I believe I have a broken connecting rod. Im thinking it would be better for me to purchase a new (remanufactured) forged long block and put it in myself. I am baseing this on the cost of have someone strip it down for the head gasket and finding other internal problems as I listed above. This is for a 01 sohc. Can you guys give me some ideas of where I could get the long block, ofcourse budget is a concern..

Is that a trick question? No it was not safe and without a dyno tune just running a mail in chip....
