Removal of chrome around windows help?

Ok, I know you guys are going to get tired of my questions pretty soon, but. The chrome that goes around the windows. How do you remove it without bending it. Today while my boyfriend was working on the gas tank, I started sanding surface rust. There is rust under the chrome, around the back window, side back windows, windshield, well all of it. I did'nt mess with it today because I don't know how you get it off without destroying it. Any help is great, thanks.

Do NOT pry on the trim! What you need to do is remove the door cards for the door trim, the interior panels for the quarter panel window trim, this will reveal the trim retainer screws.

For the front & rear windows, try to roll the trim away from the glass by hand, and peek underneath to view the metal clips that hold them in. Just take a small screwdriver to release the trim from the clip.

For a good illustration, buy a Mustang II Haynes manual. It's cheaper than replacement trim.

You can buy a trim removal tool for the front and rear glass trim. Any local parts store should have the proper tool for a few $. It's angled with an arrow head to get right up under the trim piece and move the clip outward so you can lift up carefully on the trim pieces. To remove the roofrail trim start at the lower front and just pry the piece out slowly. Once it's started the rest will come loose pretty easy. Make sure you get all the clips out under the roof section as you will need them to reinstall the trim piece.

Windshield/backglass use the trim tool.

Roofrail drip molding, use a WIDE stiff putty knife, slip between the trim and roof, and gently tap down. Start at the lower front, as mentioned before.

Quarter window moldings are screwed in from inside the car before the glass goes in, you'll have to remove the quarter glass to get them off. I would not advise skipping these, since it is often badly rusted under them. The original paint breaks down because of moisture sitting there, and age.

hey was wondering are the clips that connect the roofrail trim hard to get for mine didn't come with any and i just got the trim for the front?

You can still get the clips for the front and rear trim pieces at a body shop supply house or upholstery shop. The roof rail trim on either side of the vehicle has a different type clip and are very hard to find. I stash as many as I can find in good shape from the yards.
