Remove slack from accelerator pedal mod. Anyone do it?

No performance gain from it mainly an ergonomics things.

All I used was a 3/8 OD plastic space (cant remember if it was 1/2 or 3/4 long), cut a notch in the side of it with a hacksaw blade and used a pair of zip ties to hold it on.

If you have a stick shift it does make heel toeing alot easier.

Did it and it made driving the car much easier. Do it right and get the spacer from Modualr Depot, it's aluminum and the correct length already and $7 shipped.

its much more erogonomical, the gas pedal being about the same height as the brake pedal is. you also have no proble with hitting the rug when you go WOT. Worth it. go to the hardware store and the nylone spacer is like 50 cents then use zip ties or even a pipe clamp to hold it in place, i used a hacksaw to put a groove in it.

Wow. I just did this with a Bic pen and a serated kitchen knife. Took me less than 3 minutes to do, and it's so far one of my more favorite freemods. I had cut the slit diagonally, so as to prevent the chance for it to fall off. I still zip tied it, however. :nice: to this mod in my book!

I did the pedal mod long ago, but the spacer I used eventually broke. I then installed the pedals from the Bullitt (or Mach 1, Cobra, etc) and don't even need the spacer anymore. The new gas pedal is higher up than the stocker. :)

Is this supposed to raise your gas pedal up(towards you)? My shoe sometimes gets caught on the edge of my pedal when moving from the brake to gas, they are about even or my gas pedal is just a hair higher than my brake pedal

read through this thread and its explained the risks involved in using plastic spacers:

One problem not mentioned on that thread is the stress you will put on the throttle body shaft without a throttle stop.

You have some power in your legs and the leverage you gain from the pedal can tweek the throttle body shaft, linkage, bushings, cable brackets, ect with a few stomps to the floor (all common knowledge to anyone that works with carbs and throttlebodys that seems to be overlooked here, or at least failed to be mentioned for the newbies) Already mentioned but less costly to repair is pulling the end off the cable, stretching, ect which some people have reported in your link.

A throttle stop is cheap insurance...cheaper than a throttle body, and it's not very fun sitting on the side of the road with a broken cable.

just my 2 cents.....now I am broke :(

DUH !!!!! I used vacuum hose, so it acts like a shock absorber.
Mod done for 15K+ miles and no signs of streched cable.

Grap a hose little bigger the the cable, zip tie it on.
I went with 1/2 long piece

Ha ha, yup, that's one way to do it.
I like the built in shock absorber idea, that should take care of any problems :nice:

yeah, I did the mod as well. And worked for awhile till I broke my cable. And yes it left me on the side off the road feeling like a dumb ass.... :damnit:
I'll stick with the slight slack in my cable. Plus the 140 dollars I had to shuffle out for a new cable wasn't fun either.

FEAR NO MORE! After trying out several prototypes, I think I finally figured out a way to prevent you from stretching or snapping the gas pedal cable.

I found a bottle holder for bicycles at a bike shop. They have all sorts of stuff that clamps onto a bike frame.

I took the clamp part of that, got some longer screws, and got some nylon spacers at the hardware store.

You can use longer screws and more spacers to adjust the height. You can move the clamp up or down the pedal arm to get a fine tune adjustment. It helps to cut out the padding at the point where the bump stop will hit the floor. It gives it a more solid feeling so you know for sure you are at WOT. I'm no longer worried about stretching or snapping the cable and there's a definite stopping point where I know I'm at WOT. Not a spongy feeling of the pedal pushing against the carpet.

Final cost is like $12.00. That's $8.99 for the water bottle holder and a few bucks for the screws and spacers. I probably spent more like $25 if you count the parts I bought for the prototypes that didn't make it to final assembly.

More details in my cardomain thing.

Now just hope that next time you get your car dyno'd elephant foot doesn't bend your pedal!

:D
