remove sway bar on street safe??

Is it safe to drive around with the front sway bar removed on the street???

The only thing is,The car will handle like crap. Don't take any curves at high speeds at all.

My friend has his removed and it handles okay. You can definately feel it when you going on the interstate and change lanes at a high rate of speed.

If you remove a decent sway bar you will feel it more than on the highway.

yes you can drive just fine on the street. But keep in mind you will have more body roll and have a tendency to oversteer in the turns. I hope you are only removing it for track use, otherwise it's a waste to remove.

Something to remember, I am still using stock goodyears, but it should be the same for any hi-po street tire(aside from drag radials and skinnys) if you do not bump up your front tire pressure to around 35psi your tire will scrub about halfway down the sidewall on the passenger side.

I was running 25psi all around before removing the front swaybar. My tires scrubbed just above the twi on the sidewall. Which is perfect. I noticed one day that the passenger front tire had a scrub line in the center of the sidewall which means when I was taking off at a light or a stop sign or whatever I was rolling that side halfway onto the sidewall...Not good on street tires!!

My street PSI goes like this with the front sway bar removed

fronts 35psi-40psi
rears 25psi

at the track:

fronts 44psi
rears 18psi

keep in mind that's on stock goodyear zr45's

I've never taken one completely off, but on my current Mustang, when I bouhgt it, the front Sway-Bar pivot-bushings were GONE...just rotted out... And the car tracked all over the road, had bad body-roll, and I could feel a big difference at speed on the highway. I replaced the bushings with Polyurithanes and I was amazed at the noticeable difference that Sway-Bar makes.

I want to take it off to go to the track but the track is an hr of driving away...Just making sure the drive would be safe...

I drive for more than 90 miles to get to the track, so yes you'll be fine. Just keep in mind you'll have more body roll, so take it easy when exiting the offramp!

Also you may want to try this. Just disconnect the driver side. And zip-tie it secure. It will perform the same function.

Then tie up your exhaust system with some Bailin' Wire...those rubber hangers weigh more than you think! Next what chur gonna wanna do is, take all your windows out and just make some brand new widows with that clear tape! When you git 'er done and you get some track times let us all know how these mods werked out for ya!

That sounds like a good idea cept I won't lose the weight of the sway bar...

i dont have mine on. but it really doesnt matter too much at the track on the stock suspension. i have cut the same 60's with or without it, the weight is the only thing that is helping

I had a 96 gt and took the sway bar off; someone told me it would reduce the weight alot---wrong, all I had then was the worst handleing mustang, and shaved off only about 10-15lbs. The gains are not worth the time it takes to remove it!!!!
