Removing overspray from tires...

Any tips anyone?

I gave up trying to find some decent alloy wheels on this side of the pond at a price I can afford this side of Christmas, so I bought a set of original steelies with usable tires. Trouble is the vendor used them when he had his car sprayed, so there's loads of overspray on them.

I'm a tight-wad and want to use them...what will get the paint off, and not damage the rubber? Elbow grease and a stiff brush?

It is ghetto, but dull black paint works. I would use steel wool or scotch-brite before a steel brush.

Brake fluid is an effective paint remover and will not hurt the tires. Be careful not to get it on the painted rims.

S.O.S. Pads (detergent empregnated steel wool) work well on tires. They make whitewalls white again. I don't know if you have them over there, but you'll find them in the kitchen isle if you do.

Just be careful not to get those turn marks in too close to the rim

000 or finer steel wool. Corser stuff and the brillo pads can scratch. Choke/carb cleaner will not hurt the rims either. Brake fluid is pretty hard to keep contained.

you might also try using something like "no touch tire care" along with a scrub brush, or the afore mentioned 0000 steel wool.

We were talking about paint on the tire, but the arse has decided not to sell. I drive out there (120 mile round trip) and the wanker decides he wants more cash for them. I told him to 'go forth and multiply', then left two stripes of rubber on his driveway ( think I tore it up a little too...ooops).
