I am about to replace the clutch on my 97 GT and am wondering if there are going to be any issues pulling out the transmission? I have been scouring the web for any write ups on this and havent found a thing. I got a book from haynes but there seems to be varying info on the number of blots connecting the transmission to the bell housing.

Get ready for doing some wrestling on getting it out and putting it back in.
There are 7 bellhousing bolts, 2 bolts to the engine plate, and 3 bolts for the starter.

Yep its a BITCH I have had to do it twice so far.

Pull exhaust and unplug O2s (might want to get a new gasket for passenger side), driveshaft, two nuts holding tranny to crossmember, pull crossmember bolts, and then the above mentioned bolts.....the very top bolt in the starter is a PAIN.

Pull clutch fork and try to pry the cable back and out before you get all the bolts out. Dont forget to take your shifter handle and bezel out too(have to pull up hard on the trim piece surrounding shifter). I would suggest new quadrant, cable, and firewall adjuster (Steeda, etc) so it takes it easy on your nice new expensive clutch. And have your flywheel resurfaced!

It took two of us about 8 or more hours to completely do mine. Sat in a garage for a day and a half because I waited for new parts

Good luck its fun! I am putting headers in right now so I know what you are getting ready to go through. Been a very stressful weekend

Took me and my buddy about 3 hours to do his clutch, hardest part is the starter bolts and the h-pipe (once you figure out how to set up your extensions and u-joints it's easy). Use a jack stand to support the front of the engine to help keep it tilted back, or else it's a little pain to get the tranny back in. Have fun.

Funny how Ford only sells a 2 pack of tranny bolts for the bellhousing

ya its technicaly not hard. But be sure to have 6pts 13mm socket. Not 12pts!! Else you'll strip top 2 trans bolt like TomTom and I did, and have to grind the sucker off. which is not easy due to its location.
If you get pass them 2 bolts on top, its pretty straight forword. hardest part after that would be to line input shat up with clutch
