Removing T5 without Bellhousing?

Just wondering if I can simply unbolt the trans from the bell housing and drop the trans?

Im guessing the clutch disc will just fall in between the flywheel and pressure plate then?

Actually, they told you everything you need to know. YES! you can just unbolt your tranny from the bell housing. Thats how i did mine. Then just slide the transmission backwards and its off. Simple

i've done this a few times in the last week .. yay for pull-a-part!!!

take out the speedo cable and reverse lights plug,
use a floorjack to support the tranny
unbolt the tranny from the crossmember (in the middle)
unbolt the crossmember from the frame
lower the jack enough to pull down to get to the top bolts on the bellhousing

after you get those out you can do the bottom two.

then jack up just a bit to relieve pressure on the input shaft,

and yank it out.

oh also, all the cars i've done this with dont have exhaust, so you will probably need to get that out of the way as well.

to put it back in, reverse the order

actually, you dont need to unbolt the crossmember from the tranny.

I swapped out five t5's in a month. I kept having problems with the tranny jumping out of 2nd and reverse. We had it all figured out and could remove and install the tranny in 35 minutes. But I can't remember what the exact tools were. I do remember instead of lowering the jack to get to the top bolts on the bell we just used long extensions and a swivel just behind the socket. Also, if you are pulling out a T5 to replace it with a different T5 you might need to pull the bell housing and use offset dowel pins. I read something in the Ford Racing catalog about this problem, which I think is what was causing my tranny to jump out of gear. If only I knew that then

Take the exhaust off.
Take the driveshaft off.
Then unplug all wires hooked to T5.
Take the 4 bolts off from trans to bell.

The clutch is held in tigh by the pressure plate. IF you take the bolts out of the PP, then the disc will come out. You need a 10 spline clutch alignment tool to align it back up. Torque the PP bolts to 12-24 ftlbs. I did mine at 18lbs....nice even medium.

The clutch disc won't move around unless the pressure plate is taken off or someone steps on the clutch pedal while the transmission is out of the car. Might want to buy a Hanes or Chiltons manual for step by step instructions along with torque specs.

Well the T5 is coming out and eventually a TKO600 is going in.
