removing the grille pony???

How do I remove the pony in the grille? I looked at it and it appears to take a torx wrench(allen wrench in the shape of a star) but in the middle there is a pin that prevents the tool from going in. I know a lot of people with Cobras change out the running horse with a snake. I just want to take the pony out cause it looks cleaner without anything there. Its on a 96 GT if that matters.

You need to purchase what is called a safety torx bit. I called around to some of my local tool places and got 5 sizes in one pack for $2.00. Regular torx will not work the safety ones have a hole in the middle to go around the pin.

Could do that. Or do it the cheap and easy way. I used a dremel and cut a flat slot through it and took it out with a standard Screw Driver. When I put it back in, I used a new torqx head screw.

Up to you.

Just remember if you remove the center pin, you lose the security feature of the screw, and thus someone can steal you horsey......
