repair suggestions for 66 coupe door

I have a 66 coupe that was just about to get painted, but someone decided they would decorate my passenger door with a shotgun.
Being the original solid door the buckshot didnt penetrate the skin, but with these old cars I dont know what my options are.

Can you buy a new door skin ?
Do I replace the whole door?

Since I was about to get it painted anyway I am only frustrated, not crazy as I would have been a month from now, but advice on how to get this fixed properly would be appreciated.

I have never done it. The info I am passing on is based on the experience of others here in the forum who have posted on the topic. Skins and whole doors are all over-seas copies made in the PRC or if you are lucky, the ROC. There are no skins or doors based on original tooling and the comments made have been that it took as much work to get them to fit as it would have taken to just repair the door at the end of the day.

Options: repair, replace with a skin, or replace whole door. NPD offers a new and improved door shell that they claim has been tried and it fit well for around $255. The problem with that is you have to transfer your glass, guides, regulator,etc... to the new door.
I've heard skins are a crap shoot from slapping them right on to the lines were not correct or sharp enough and required much work.
If your skin is dented all over, you might want to look in the yellow pages for an authorized dent king or similar comapny. They claim they can knock out dents without damaging paint and are equipped with alot of special tools to get into hard to reach places. Get an estimate.

i have a repo door i got at a mustang show it had a dent i got it for 60 bucks! it fits well u can tell its a little thinner metal when u put it on cause the weight difference but im happy

If it's a good solid door and it didn't distort it too much I'd go ahead and fix it. The original parts in good shape are the best.

I ahve both left and right repro doors from NPD and they suck #$%*%. Neither line up for crap, the hinge plates in the doors are not centered and 1 was not lined up atall, I would have to cut out a notch to get to the hole.

Always easier to repair metal if there isnt an "origional tooling" version

I bought a pair from CJ Pony and wish I would've been in the loop before I purchased them. I haven't installed them yet, but when set side by side to the original, they look good and everything seems to be 'in order'. I hope they fit good, cause the original are pretty fubar.
