I have a t-5 that is on the way out what should I replace it with? tko 500? build a c-4? I'm making 350 hp now and going to add a blower or n2o. I also thought about pro shifting my t-5.
I mostly drive the car to & from the track or about 3000 miles a year.

How much more does that weigh than a stock t-5? What mods were made to fit that t-56. What kinda $$ we talking for everything?

D&D performance sells a mustang t-56 kit for $2700; comes with everything you need for install. The viper-spec kit runs about a grand more.

I am in about the same situation, I dont know whether to go with a PA C-4 or get another T-5 like a Gforce or a Liberty.

tko-600. Best tranny for the money IMO. I talked with the owner of Liberty Gears for a long time and for 5-speeds and below a $2,000 budget, the tko-600 cant be beat. The g-force is good but it takes a little "work" to make it right so if you go that route, be sure to check into it.

My vote is for the tko-600. The t-56 just has the "cool"factor of a 6-speed....doesnt really do much else. 2-over drives with the final one being about the same as any other performance manual transmission. And im pretty sure it holds less power than the tko-600, unless you upgrade to the viper spec which = $$$$$. But im not positive on the power ratings.

the t-56's sixth overdrive is only useless if you get the one with the .62 or .64 ratio. If you get the t-56 with the .5 sixth gear it makes a pretty big difference on rpm's. Atleast thats what the rpm calcualter thing says.

exactly. How much power can a non-viper spec t-56 handle anyway?

I actually think they run $2499 if you call their hotline. A few experts have told me that the T-56 will actually hold alot of power. I was told on hardcore50.com that there are a few 3800 pounds cheby's with 500rwhp using them.

I tried the TKO swap with no luck, got horrible vibrations. To many factors to figure out.

G-Force tranny's fit just as good as stock, NO HASSLES! if you get the 94-95 version, Check out astro performance, thats where I got mine. $1695 plus a core charge, no extra parts needed unlike the TKO swap. Alot of guys are running consistent 9's every weekend with the straight cut dog-ring setup.

My experience with the new TKO's is they are garbage. Installed a TKO 600 in a 92 coupe 347 t-66 turbo. During the 500 mile break in of the clutch 2nd and 3rd gear crapped out. Then a local shop installed a TKO 500 in a 98 GT that was making a tad over 300 at the wheels and it will not down shift unless you are completely stopped and you also have to roll the car a bit to go in reverse. This is jsut my experience with the new units now for the older TKO's , they were damn good never had a problem out of them.

If something went wrong with them that quick, im pretty sure the warranty would cover it. I have heard that Tremec is a lot better to deal with than G-force for customer service, thats another thing that made me go with the tremec. That 98 GT sounds like it could be something in adjustment or something of that nature. Have they tried everything to solve it? If it proves to be the transmission, like i said, handle it with Tremec and see where it goes.

Either way, you always hear negative feed back from all the companies, just depends on who you hear more bad stuff about. Performance parts will break or not run right. Thats a given. I think the deciding factor is the customer service.

I sure hope they can handle more for that price tag.

And its funny you mention the tko/vibrations thing...i had vibrations through mine. Didnt have much time to problem solve before the car stopped running but i had a couple of things to try. I didnt index the bell housing which could be the cause. If not, then i will be going to ddperformance which is local to me to figure it out. Besides that i love the tranny. Now that i think about it, people have always had vibrations with tremecs in 94-95's(paul had his with the last gen. TKO) so im not sure why some have it and some dont. There is no straight up installation for our cars it seems. But if you check over everything and double check it, im sure it will run just fine.

I know you will hear negative feedback from anyone, I was just stating my personnal experience. As for the customer service, they are not wanting to deal with the TKO600 they are saying that it is installed wrong. That is not so in my eyes when we called their tech support and got them to walk us thru indexing it with a Lakewood housing and all. We are sending them fluid this week from the trans that has metal chunks in it to see if that is due to incorrect installation.

Now the 98 is a different story, still trying to get a return number from them and labor reimbursment for removal and re-installation. but they are working with them on that one.

Well im glad to hear you are trying to work it out and not just bashing them. Im sorry to hear your bad luck and i hope things work out for the best for you and the 98.
