well i replaced my balancer today and everything went very smooth, had no problems with getting it on or off. all i can say is wow! what a difference. the car runs so much smoother, and the vibration is gone! the car seems to be running great? but when i checked the timing its advanced about 25 degrees. i dont know if i should leave it there or put it at 10? also when i stomp on the gas it smokes badly. seems to be white smoke? just curious if the timing is whats causing this?
also changed fuel filter today!

@ 25 degrees its actually starting and idling? did you pull the spout out when doing the timing and put it back in? (I could see you running 25* total timing with spout out).. hmm

Also, what brand of balancer did you use?? (not that it matters, just curious)

tx !!

whats better a fluiddamper for romac
price no issue

Romac is prob the best ballancer you can get. I just bought one but its not going on until this spring. You can get them off ebay from $200-$250. They usually go for over $300 in the mags.

i don't know about your questions, but i'll be doing a balancer swap over spring break. any hints? did you need any special tools?

Just the right size sockets for the bolts and a Pully Puller. If you dont have a puller then its not comming off.

Romac is the best. If you call and talk to Mel at Fastlane Motorsports in Houston he will honor his ebay price on Romacs. I got mine for $209 shipped. Their phone number should be on one of their ebay auctions, just go over to ebya and do a search for 50oz balancer/damper.

yeah thats the company I got mine from off ebay.

How were you running an AODE puter at 25* base timing? Your car (I saw all the stuff in your sig) is making up for all of our ping machines that cant handle any tming. :rlaugh:

The key didnt come out of the crank, right (we know the new balancer is correctly located)?

I dont want to offend, but I also wondered if you were stating your base timing with the SPOUT in (which would be about 12* SPOUT out).

Glad to hear you like it!

Not a stupid question.

The balancer quells torsional vibration. When they are in good shape, you dont notice them. But when the elastomer starts to take a dump (and the outer rings slips), vibration starts to be felt. And said vibes are really tough on the bottom end.

The stock balancer doesnt hold up well in high HP/quick spooling motors - if oosmytoo's was OEM, that's surprising it lasted as long as it did with his very nice combo.

No body seems to be coming back to the white smoke mentioned..usually white smoke is an indication of a headgasket issue. First I'd look to correct the timing issue as stated above, second I'd really want to look at the cause of the smoke....that's a very significant issue.
