Replacing ball joint on 95

My dads mustang just broke its lower right ball joint while he was driving, he had it towed over to my place and we're going to fix it tommorow. Getting the control arm out of the car is easy, but how do i r&r the ball joint itself.

Im used to chevys and i was able to do my camaro by freezing the joint and heating the control arm with a torch. Then it just slipped in.

you need a tie rod/ball joint splitter. put it between the ball joint (assuming everything that needs to be disconnected is disconnected) and smash the hell out of the end of the splitter with a hammer. then the new one should pop in with minimal force

take the A-Arm to a shop and let them press it in.

it can be a bitch... well imposible without proper machinery.

but pitch them $20 for the balljoint install and be headache free.

cuz you need a press in my experience.

Like posted above, get yourself access to a press or a huge vise. If you hand them a uca/lca, they shouldn't charge you much to do it.

But he actually needs to get the ball joint out of the control arm. For that you will need a press. They sell a press that is made just for this. It looks like a big C clamp and comes with different size adapters.
Otherwise just find a machine shop or parts store that has a hydraulic press and pay to have it done. The only problem with doing it this way is that you need to remove the entire control arm and bring it to them while if you have a press like i mentioned you can leave the control arm on the car.

well i just got off the phone with my dad he's comming over. none of the 4 parts stores he phoned, or the 3 dealers sells just the lower ball joint, they require the purchase of the entire lower control arm for 200 dollars.

I phone a couple speed shops and they can get performance pieces in 4-5 days, but he needs the car working by monday.

Must be a canadian thing
