OK so as we all know the Ford Mach system sounds ok for a little while but there comes a time when ok isn't good enough... my 95 GT has reached this point. I am looking to replace all the mach speakers - I have no problem finding 5x7 (6x8) speakers it's the tweeters im having a problem with. I purhased a set of 1" tweeters - I understand the mach tweeters are a lot larger I was wondering if anyone has replaced them and what you may have done to make them fit. thanks

I believe they are 2.5" tweeters. Also, the impedance on the MACH 460 speakers are non-standard. 2 ohms if I'm not mistaken. Almost all of the aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms.

Can you replace the 2 ohm speakers with aftermarket ones? I don't know. You'll hear two sides to this debate. A salesman at Best Buy said they do it all the time. An installation technician at CarToys said they would never do it.

[shrug]

Your call.

i am ripping the whole mach system out. The amps have gone bad and the speakers are starting to crack. The problem isn't the 2 ohm to 4 ohm its actually making the tweeters fit. get back to me

Get a set of these $60 200W from MA Audio. 1.5" with the big mounting tab.

I have two sets here if you want a cheap set, their brand new.

You can fit any tweeter in there that is smaller than 2.5" you'll have to put plates in no matter what you use...

Since you have to replace everything I suggest that you get a component set for the fronts...MB Quart and Focal are the best by far...but if you are more concerned about cost JL, Alpine, Kenwood, Boston, Eclipse, and Diamond all make very good component sets for the more budget concious. Just remember that you will get what you pay for so do your research in advance.

For the rears I would get another set of whatever you get for the fronts or if you want more bass fill (especially if you aren't going to be getting subs) get a set of 6x9 coaxials from the same product line as what you got for the fronts.
