I recently fitted a dual point Pertronix Ignitor II electronic ignition kit with Flamethrower coil. I gapped the unit in accordance with the instruction, opened up the spark plug gaps by .010 per recommendation from the guys at Stangnet and checked and adjusted the engine timing. The engine runs great when it starts, the problem is it doesn't start any better than with the regular points.

How can I check if I have a resistor wire in the circuit? I can't see any 'blocks' as described in the instructions. I think that the resistor wire is there to protect the points from excessive voltage and this feature is not required with the Pertronix.

Pertronix recommends you run a NEW wire that is a full 12 volts for the unit.

I run points still, and a simple bump of the starter fires it up, so I don't know how starting could be any better with.........

Ozsum, where would he attach from to get 12 volts? Does he run it from the ignition switch and go direct to the coil? I set up a pertronix on mine about 3 years ago and I went right off the coil. Presumably, I am not getting 12V to the unit. I have not had any problems, but I should have it connected properly.

I ran my pertronix from the ignition wire (blue-green, I believe) to the coil. I cut the pink resister wire out of the circuit and ran new wire to replace it from the firewall to the ignition. Hope this helps.

Are you having starting problems? Generally an ignition system upgrade won't make much of a difference unless your old ignition system had issues.

Any keyed 12 volt source will work, ie...ignition, voltage regulator etc..........

Some resisitor wires and/or blocks have lost their........well, resistance over the years and are putting out damn near 12 volts, but to be sure, run a new wire or test the one you have now.
