Rev Limiter

I am racing a factory fuel injected 1991 2.3L Mustang in the SCCA in the ITB class. It has the EEC-IV C1A1 computer installed. I have gone to all of the chip vendors to see if they make or will custom make a chip that eliminated the 6000 RPM rev limiter in the computer. SuperChips was the only vendor to say that they could, but after many months of trying each version they agree with the other vendors that the limiter is not associated with the chip. Would anyone here know which circuit or land would need to be disabled in order to eliminate the rev limiter?

it might be in the DIS system, its based on Crankshaft position. But the redline is 6250 and unless you have converted to solid lifters you will probably float the valves on compress the lifters if you go much higher than that.

Thanks for the info. I have run the same cam, springs and and lifters with my previous engine that had a Weber and a distribuator and I set the redline at 7000 RPM which was about 250 RPM shy of valve float. Took a lot of time to find the right set of lifters that would work to that RPM. I will look at the DIS and see what signals are being sent to it.

I used to race against Marcello when he was road racing in the SCCA. He had sponsorship from SuperChips and he too had the problem with it Rev Limiting. Thanks for the info.

I don't know exactly what they do to attempt to eliminate the rev limiter, but it is likly that there arn't any ignition or fuel maps for higher rpms, so even if the "rev limiter" were taken out, the computer wouldn't have anything to set fuel and spark.

I guess if the ruels allowed you to buy a SDS that may be an answer but I think there rev limits are like 6500rpms or less.

As for the fuel and spark. I think they use stuff like a MAF off a 94-95' GT to help with the fuel at higher rpms and a MSD DIS II for the spark but not sure

The computer holds the last fuel and timing setting if you go past 6250.

I raised mine to 7500 via an eec-tuner (I don't believe your computer is supported) and the computer just holds the last set value from 6500 all the way to 7500 (unless I modify the fuel and timing maps above that).

You have found the EEC-Tuner to work well for your application Stinger? I have been looking at the different tuner options myself. good to have opinions

hey rvracers, i to race in the SCCA in the ITB class with a 1987 mustang.in my last race at the DAYTONA ECR i found myself limited to the speed of the car because of the rev limiter in the ECM. btw i took 5th place in class.i'm also having a problem with the car, when i hit the rev limiter it feels like the engine goes into a default mode, she has a miss and it doens'nt go away unless i drop the rpms under 3000? i would be very interested in extending the rev limiter. in the ford motorsports cat there is an adjustable rev extender and air/fuel ratio mixture box, not sure if it's only for the 5.0 though.
