Completely normal. Shift into another gear whilevthe car is in neutral and then slide it into reverse.
My 96 Cobra used to do that all the time. If I rolled up an inch in 1st gear then switched to reverse it was fine....or if I stuck it in 5th, then went to reverse it would be fine.
Your reverse synchro is going bad tho. I eventually replaced mine because it got to the point where it wouldn't go in at all. I would pull with all my might and couldn't get it into reverse. It was crazy.
I'm not familiar with the T45, but the T5 does not have a synchronized reverse gear. Thus, grinding noises going into reverse are very common, and happens when the car is not completely stationary or the guts are still spinning freely.
Like said above, shifting into any forward gear with the car sitting still stops the internals from spinning and eliminates the grinding sound when going into reverse (assuming you keep the clutch held in). Also, jamming the lever into reverse like you're making the trans your **** helps, too.You get in the habit of doing this and it will never grind.

Could be a lot of things. Worn sycros/blocker rings, excessive countershaft endplay, if you've got an aftermarket shifter, it could be as simple as your shift stops not being adjusted correctly.Mine likes to slip out of reverse unless I hold it in gear. The first time it banged out of gear I thought I hit another car or something, it was LOUD!
