I have a 96 snake wish a blown motor It happened in Dec. 06. I had the right bank blow on me and it completely self-destructed. Now I am just starting to get enough $ together to be able to afford a new motor. Do I need to do anything else to it since it has been sitting for 8 months untouched?
Thanks in advance,
Gordy Dekalb, IL

You may need to be more specific. Sitting 8 months is not too bad for a car. Mine sits for 6-8 while in my garage over the winter. I have never had any issues.

As far as the motor, just replace what is bad to save cash. I wouldn't go crazy getting forged this and aftermarket that!! My car has held up great with a supercharger and stock parts for over 10,000 miles. So if you don't plan on racing the car seriously you don't need the best of the best, just stock Ford replacement parts will do you just fine!

well what happened was, she wouldn't start one day and I tried to diagnose the problem. Code were getting thrown for an O2 sensor, so I changed it out, no imporvement. Then we got it started once and it ran like dog crap, shootin out some smoke and chugging and it really wanted to die, had to keep rpms up a bit to keep it running. So we couldn't figure it out, I took it to the dealership, turns out the ECU was bad, they replace it, and she ran for 5 minutes til the right bank blew. The whole right side top end is destroyed, and there's no guarantee that the left side would blow right after I got 'er running. I mean it's about 5500-6500 for a new DOHC motor with a core. So, there are the details, she's been sitting outside for about 9.5 months now and I dunno when Im even gonna have enough cash. What else do I need to do so that she runs like she used to.

FYI Brothers Performance has new 2000 Cobra motors complete with everything: Heads, intake, plenum, injectors, alt, powes sterring pump, computer, harness, and a t-45 completly assembled and ready to go for less than $5000. You could replace everything, or sell off the parts you dont need. Sell the tranny, alt, pump, and your current intake setup and you will probaly spend less than 4k. Also with the newer heads its simple to put a 03-04 Cobra eaton and intercoller on it.

ok well been saving, got 1200, its tough nowadays. I had a guy at encoreMPW.com look around for an engine, but no luck so far. Its been 2 years now of sitting outside, no garages available, tragedy i know, under a cover. Cant find an engine for under 4 grand, kinda rediculous.

So, you know the heads were damaged? If not, a good disassembly and inspection will tell you what you can do to fix it.

Kinda hard to imagine what happened.

you need to take apart that motor and see what stuff there is to save on it. the bottom end may still be good
