Rewiring entire car except steering column? 86 coupe.

For those who have rewired your car; did you leave the wiring for the controls on the steering column? IE the wipers and blinker controls?
I'm stripping out the interior and rewiring everything but the light harnesses and relocating the stock light switch. I am assuming I can just leave all the wiring (minus the cruise control) wiring on the steering column? I am going to relocate the hazard controller also.
Thoughts, suggestions?
