Richmond or FMS?

I've been thinking about getting a set of 3.73's to replace my 3.55's. What is the better gear to go with? Richmond or FMS? I'm thinking FMS.

Also, has anyone ever heard of/ordered from Diversified Products Marketing? I've never heard of them, but they have an ad in 5.0 magazine that says they have FMS gears for $139. Everywhere else is $169-$189. Is this a reputable company, or is there somewhere else to get 3.73's for cheap?

i had richmond gears in my last stang and they whined a little, but im going with FMS gears in this stang, partly becuase im doing the install myself and the FMS gears are suppose to be a direct swap in, using the same shims and all, jsut easier for the novice mechanic.

DPM is a good place to order stuff from. They have the best prices on FRPP that I have found so far.

When I got my FMS gears but in the guy who claimes he worked for Ford for over 15 years said you can reuse the stock shims. I have since done two of my buddies cars with the stock shims and none of our cars make any noises. I put Richmond gears in my roomates Z28 and set them up measuring/adjusting pinion depth and backlash the right way and they still whine. I say go with the ford gears.

The FMS gears are nice and are one of the best out but over the last year or so they have changed and are actually a little less meaty in the tooth area then the previous year. Just means a little less rotating mass, free up a few ponies.

DPM is a good company ordered a few things from them over the years with no issues at all, and that is a really good price!

I ordered my 3.73's and rebuild kit from DPM, came in a ford racing box and cost $191 including the $12 in shipping to Ohio. I launched all year at 5000 rpm on slicks and they don't whine or anything. Best deal I've spent on my stang yet.

Actually... richmond IS FMS!! There really are only a few MFG's for diff gears!! there is one made in China... torque line i think is their name!! Guys... IF THE GEAR MAKES NOISE it was installed wrong!! OR the bearing were bad and didnt get changed!! ( not that they need to be changed when the R/P is being changed!!) Torque line, FMS, Richmond, Eaton, Dayna.... blah blah.... they will ALL make noise IF not installed correct !! from 2.73s to 5.60's !! the Mustang has little or no deadner in the rear and the short wheel base allow the noise to SEEM louder in the Fox vs Truck or big car. I have used them all!! and IF there is/was noise .. It was MY fault!! not the gears... SOoooo... It is the money thing again!! Usually it is 250-300.00 to install!! cool??

Just me..................................

ignorance abound in this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as far as quality goes FMS is NOT the way to go.
i've broke a few sets and have had numerious quality concerns with them i've installed for customers.. not one's i've actually installed but one's they've sent me. we always check the measurements before install.. and honestly we were sending back as many as we were installing. i have had them ship me gear sets where the pinion was MISSING teeth from the factory.. and the ringgears that were not drilled for bolts!

for a quality gear contact someone like precision that offers different softness of the gears and choose one for your type of racing.

yes richmond makes fms.. but they are not identical... btw i'm running a pro gear from richmond... 1200 hp hasnt hurt it yet.. but they should be replaced after every season of racing tho. and will be replaced with a pro type gear from precision...
