rims and tires

so ive been looking at some rims for a 94, and ive found some a pretty good price

im wondering if a 315 tire will fit a 18x10 rim

i know that anything bigger than 275 will rub in the front but after i do my suspension this will not be a problem and im going to run 315's

so will a 275 fit a 10 inch rim or is it to small

315's in the rear ok stock?

just trying to save the problem of haveing to buy 2, 9 inch rims in the front then buying 10 inches later

i can get the 17x10.5 if need be 03/04 cobra rim

so some help in rim choice would be nice, pro's and con's of each would be great

I don't think anyone makes a 315 for an 18" rim. And yeah a 275 will fit a 10" rim. The 275s will fit a rim that is 9-10"s

Several manufacturers do sell an 18" tire that wide. Probably wouldn't be cheap though. 315/30/18 would be the size you'll need.

runnin a 275 upfront is sorta 50/50.... some say it rubs, others say it dont... im runnin a 275/35/18 upfront on 18x9s and i dont rub much... as for a 315, BF Goodrich makes them in an 18 with a sidewall of 30 i believe like Matt said...

my friends runnin a 17x10.5 with 315s and he rubs every now and then... hes put slices in his, but he doesnt know how to drive thats why LOL

Yeah I see they do sell 315 in 18" wheels. I didn't know that. I automatically thought about drag radials. I see they range from $250-500 a piece.

yeah BF goodrich sell for about $284/ea from teh factory...

I have 275/40/17's on a 10.5 and I don't like the way they look. The outer edge of the wheel isn't covered by the tire. I don't know if a 10' wheel would look that much better. I had the 275's on 9' wheels and they looked good. As far as 315/30/17's I think the cheapest are Sumitomo's- they're around $100 each. That's what I plan on getting as soon as the 275's are worn out.

Too wide a tire will put stress on the sidewall and cause heat builld up there which will in turn cause premature tire failure. Also not very good for handling but they look pretty sharp. Im sure some more people will chime in, a lot of people have some beefy tires on here but Im sure most are busy doing that holiday thing.

Not true. A tire that is too wide will simply wear the inside (not the shoulders) of the tire, causing premature wear (failure) of the tire.

As far as handling and a "proper application"... My M.A.S.T. Fitment Guide says that a 315/35 tire should be mounted on an 11.0"-13.0" wheel. So, it is an approved application of the size for tire and rim. (Even by "conservative" Michelin standards.) You are right about the handling being "not very good" with the 315 on an 11". (10.5"...semantics) The 275 tire should feel razor sharp on this wheel, compared to the 315.

For a street driven car, you will never (in normal driving) push the tire to the extreme that you would notice a difference. Plus, with a street driven car, you DO have a concern with curbs and other obstacles. Id run a 315, in a minute.

so, would that mean a 'no bueno' on a 18x10 rim with a 315? should i stick with 295s?

the reason i ask is that i dont realy like the idea of 315 out back and 275 up front

to me that sounds like mad oversteer issues.

ill get the 10.5 inch rims because it sounds like its a better option for a 315 vs a 10 inch

another thing is that my future suspension setup will allow for 315's without rubbing,

so if i can get 315's and it will be minimal rubbing im not to worried about it, (assuming that steering lock or close to it that causes it to rub)

but depending on whats rubbing, and how bad, ill run the 275 up front for a while as long as i dont have to buy the rim again


also what would the best tire size be for a 10.5 inch rim, 295's?

315 is perfect for a 10" rim.. Don't go too narrow of a tire, you WILL regret it and it will look like crap.. 315/30/18 falken azenis here.. $318 a piece.. handle AMAZING!!!!!

I would recommend a 295/35/18 for the rear on a 10" rim. I would stay away from a 315. You probably could do it, but a 10.5" would be much better suited and would fit better.

I run BFG TA KDW's and they do a great job and look great.

I don't have any closer angled shots to show you the wheel protection of the tire, but it's good.

i dont mind running the 10.5 inch rim, as i love both styles
