Rocker Arms

Question....I am wanting to change out my cam which means new push rods and, hydraulic lifters and new rocker arms since mine are non-adjustable. The questions is can I use new roller rockers arms on the stock shaft and stands? All I have heard about the aluminum stands is that they can break...I also thought about just getting stock adjustable rockers but they are about the same cost as the rollers from comp..

What engine do you have and what cam are you planning on using ?

Sorry about that.....390 with stock rebuilt heads, Edelbrock performer intake and Holley Carb. They did not do much else to it. I assume the compression is what it was stock.

What cam are you planning on going with ? Unless it's above a 290* duration and .525 lift, the stock rockers are fine. You may want to disassemble them to check for wear on the rocker shafts and replave these if necessary.

Which one ? There's more than one. But you don't need adjustable rockers nor aftermarket rockers with any of the three listed. All you need to do is take your rocker assemblies apart and inspect the shafts for wear. They typically wear on the bottom of the shaft under the rockers. The rockers damn near last forever, but you should inpsect these too for wear in the shaft holes.

As for the aluminum stands breaking, I've never had that happen. The shaft ends can break with the wilder cams, but not with what you're looking at. I've run 3 390's and a 427 (both stroked to a 454 and as a 427) and never had any of this happen. One was with a 296* .516 lift cam (hyd) one with a Crane 272* Energizer (.516 lift also) and the 427 with a solid Holman Moody Bonneville cam (310* x .515 lift) The only issues I had was with the solid cam and the stock adjustable rockers, these have interference fit threads that tend to loosen with each adjustment and will need to be replaced eventually because of it.

As always thanks for the help, they put in new lifters, rods and rocker arms when it was rebuilt.

Check the rocker shafts on the bottom side where the rockers ride anyway, just in case they didn't replace them.
