I stumbled on this while looking at their electronic catalog. Its a PITA to the get the support out as I found out yesterday(pulled the column to do it) and would rather have a roller setup than the stock pot metal bushings. Anyone know anything about it? Its Nation Parts Depot P/N: 01509-1BK and only $34.95. It doesnt look like any welding ir required either.

Thanks

Good to hear. I'm all too familiar with the lack of space under there. I had the steering column on my chest, my legs over the seat back and out the door, and my head nearly under the dash. Probably comical to the casual observer .

Did you have to knock out the original metal bushings to fit the bearings in? Do the bearings just roll on the clutch pedal shaft? Thanks.

yes, knock out the old metal ones, and the new ones will roll on the shaft if im not mistaken, but there are like little plastic peices that it comes with to replace and it could roll on those, but i think they are retainers, im not quite sure, it was a pretty strait foreward install from what i remember...you should have no problem with it, and yes, i am all to familiar with the position, im 6'3 and i had to take out the seat after trying the exact same thing you did, i could hardly walk and for a few seconds thought i was paralyzed..

edit, and when you buy the bearing conversion, the thing actually comes with directions, and they are really acurate and easy to fallow...how cool is that, most stuff i see coming out now-a-days has no directions, but this did, so it was sweet...just a note

Sounds like a good item to get then. I work in a machine shop(as a machinist no less!), so if I actually had to rig something it wouldnt be much problem. As it is I'm doing a scratch-built z-bar to clutch fork rod with a spherical bearing on the end. Eventually I'll do the whole clutch linkage. Bronze bushings in the meantime.

As far as being a contortionist to work under the dash, I'm an inch up on height . I recall my '65 being a little tighter than the '8, though.

Is this conversion on just one of the pedals or does it take care of both pedals on a manual?

BTW, I'm only 6' working on a 65

Lets just say I need a window sticker that says "Powered by Profanity".

The brake/clutch pedals share the same two pivot bushings, so the kit covers both.

I made my own roller bearings on the 69 428 Mach I had. I bought bearing assemblies from McMaster Carr, and mounted them inside the pedal support. (Yes, I did remove it to make it easier.

Once done, the clutch (Big Block Heavy one) worked SO much smoother & better! I also machined in a bronze bushing into the clutch pedal, so the "Z" bar had a bearing as well. Made a nasty clutch work like butter!

Did you use R10 size bearings(1.375" OD/.625 ID) or roller needle bearings? I would have made my own, but my seasonal job as an aprentice machinist ended this week and I ran out of time for side jobs.

Z-bar bushings like this?

I also made a bombproof clutch fork pushrod with a hardened tip and tie-rod end.
