Ronstang saves day....Roller 5.OOOOOHHHH conversion

All the pe**s size measuring, and both of you guys forgot one small detail...

The cobra motor came from the factory with different ratio rocker arms. Stock 5.0 motors had 1.6:1 rockers and the Cobra motor had 1.7:1 rockers. Ford was forced to be cheap after the heads, and rocker arms along with all the other mods that they did to the cars. Heck, in the 94-95 realm, the cars had a standard Mustang rear valance. It did not even say Cobra on it. They would not have designed a different cam for such a short production run and not put it up for sale in the aftermarket. (less than 15000 units if you count the 93). If it was different, it was not that great of a change. (225 hp to 245hp) I sure can get 20 hp out of a set of better heads(gt-40), rocker arms, 24lb injectors, and a new fuel map.

Besides, what is the difference. It sounds like Jason is happy, and with good reason. Jason, I am sure that a set of 1.7's are not going to be that hard to find...

Who said anything about forgeting the different rocker ration? That has nothing to do with the initial lift or duration on the cam?

We were talking about the actual cam not the final ratio.

How much of a difference did you notice going to the roller set up? Does it idle better or anything like that?

This is hilarious.

Glad you are happy with your new engine 65fastback, and I sure wish I had a Ronstang in my area. ;)

I wind up working on my car by myself...always by myself. :(

lol

If you didn't live 300 miles away I would be more inclined to help. I'm at the point I want to see your car on the road. If it makes you feel any better, I've been told by two people that I have good advice and am a good helper, but my stuff never seems to be running.

I am sure we would be working together on both cars. However I refuse to move to California, and I know you are not going to give up your 75 degree days to move back to Hell.

I am at the point where I want to see my car off the lift! That alone would be an accomplishment. :rlaugh:

Suspension kits are really really close for the 68-70 crowd...;)

Just pointing out that there is no diffence in the cams. The Cobra motor is an HO motor with different heads, rockers, and injectors...

oh man, there is TONS of difference, the thing is actually fun to drive now, and fast enough. Idle is so sweet, exhaust got ALOT louder which is good, i wanted it louder. With the new motor and exhaust sounds and my new suspension which includes 2" drop in the front and 1.5" drop in the rear it is soooo sweet, i can turn near everyones head now. Last night my car got its first chick attention, two hotties in a celica :D

oh and SnakeStang65, id love to see your car

65fastback: That's the kind of stuff I like to hear. I'm really looking forward to going to a roller cam set up.

Gram: Nah, we'd just be working on your car. I don't have any parts to put on mine. Yet.............

Wow! You got alot done. About how much would you say you spent on the whole thing? You said it was difficult to find the right distributor gear, but you didn't say what the final solution was.

Hey Ronstang, you wanna take a road trip up to Fort Worth and help a brotha out? ;)

It didn't cost him too much since I got him the brand new short block, 2 sets of heads, a new gasket set, an oil pump, and a harmonic balancer for the equivalent of $100.....he traded the AOD he just got used from another friend of mine for $100. I'm not sure what all the incidentals will add up to but it won't be a whole lot for a new engine. The distributor gear is available from Ford Racimg Parts & Performance. I have wholesale account so the gear was only about $37 out the door but it lists for around $45, but you can get it cheaper.

i dont know why a few of yall r crying bout the cam its a pointless argument i bet u could throw 10 ho cams and a cobra cam in a pile the spec all of them and not know which is which. but most of all im sure hes happy with it now :)
well anyway most of yall dont know me since i very rarely post on here , so ill just say hi now .
oh and one other thing 85 mustangs came with duraspark distrubtors and roller cams well 5 speeds did anyway :) see yall

<- jealous because I want to do the same thing, and can't afford it. :(

He can thank all of my wonderful friends who pulled through for this low buck build up. My friend didn't want a .060 overbore so would not use the engine and it was just sitting there. Jason was aware of the potential overheating but we were in a pinch. It seems to be running just fine, creeps up in temps just sitting but nothing catastrophic, I am pleasantly surprised. I was also able to collect parts from my friend Steve. Him and I keep alot of parts we aren't going to use because we know someone will need them someday and we give them away at that point. My friend Bill has a machine shop and he turned the front of the balance down to make it shorter to work with the v-belts and then made a spacer for the water pump pulley because we still had to space out the accessories .285 inch to get correct alignment...and he did all this on a Friday evening from abotu 4-6PM.

This was an amazing feat that was accomplished in my driveway in 4 days and could not have happened without the help of my friends in that came through for me and Jason when we really needed it. Even my friend Dave, who stopped by to say hi on his day off, jumped in and helped Jason get the engine off the stand, installed the flywheel, and got the engine hanging between the shock towers while I was at the machine shop fixing the balancer. I'm still amazed at all we did and overcame in a short period and without my FRIENDS it would have never happened. THANKS GUYS!!!!!
