If I'm using Royal Purple gear oil in my rearend do I need the friction modifier? Royal Purple claims to already have friction modifier in their gear oil. LMR sells RP gear oil with a bottle of friction modifier. I always wondered why if RP already has friction modifier in it already. Is there something I'm not getting here?

im kinda curious to know if there is any advantage to adding it with my spool... id like to try and make things spin as freely as i can

Ive read some not so stellar reports on RP gear oil. I switched to amsoil in that and in my old truck, when i had the rear rebuilt from ford, it would chatter like crazy around corners. I swapped that to amsoil also, and the chattering went away 100%

When i had a posi, i always put two containers of friction modifier in with the oil.

Id use amsoil, mobil1, or redline. All three of these brands did well in the analysis that i read.
