Hi
I have a GT with auto, less than 1000 miles and I have a pronounced rumble that appears betwen 65-70 mph. Changing gear or killing o/d makes no difference, so probably not engine. Ideas I have include prop shaft needs balancing, also I've seem the TSB about an exhaust vibration at 850 rpm. Any ideas??
Thanks.

Any aftermarket exhaust work done on your GT, Boss? Where is the "rumble" coming from (Engine compartment/bell housing area/Driver cabin/Center console/Rear diff/drive shaft u-joint)? Does it go away after you go above or below 65-70? Is there a small rumble in other gears that is just difficult to discern with other engine sounds?

Thanks - the noise is like a low frequency vibration that does not change frequency with speed, it builds then fades away. It sounds like a cross between a faulty wheel bearing and tyre noise on a bad road, weird. Cannot tell where it is coming from, but feels like the drivetrain. No other rumbles anywhere.

Jeremy,

Not sure when your baby was built, boss...Perhaps this
05-7-3
AXLE WHINE - VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 11/15/2004

Hard to pin point if you can't tell where the noise is coming from. Next step in questions would be, does the RPM load act "normal" at shift points? Does it jump RPM, either up or down prior to shift? Does it hold RPM load too long before shift? Are there any other noticable operational issues? TQ Converter load?

I think I may have read here, or on another forum of a GT-AOD owner who had to receive a new tranny. If I come across it, I will post the link. I would guess if your baby has been shipped overseas, this is not a simple "Take it to the Dealership" answer.

Well, answer me back on the above and we will keep trying to pinpoint the component at least.

I feel bad that there isn't a quick answer.

But thanks for the thoughts! What I will do is a more complete analysis of the sound to try and really fix position, occurrence etc. So far it hasn't got any worse. And yes you're right she's overseas, in the UK in fact. Thanks again.

is it just a rumble or do you feel a slight vibration , between 65 70mph . in my auto gt when im driving anything between 65 -80 mph i have a slight vibration ?

I had the same problem with my 06 GT, the rumbling sound and all.
I had it fixed under warranty (TSB- 05-20-2.) This TSB calls for repalcement of the ring and pinion. Check with your Ford dealer and ask about this TSB.

Problem solved:nice:
