i took my mustang out last night for a little cruise seeing as how the weather was great....along the way i ran into a wrx not a sti and lets just say i barely beat it. Then on the way home i ran across a buick grand national and i got out in front of him for about for about 3 seconds from a 45mph roll then he just totally raped me after that...i didnt come home with a smile, i need some more horsepower...

You run 12's and a WRX, no STi ran with you? No way it was stock or your car has issues. You should have dusted that thing if its stock. GN are fast and rarely stock(unless they are garage queens) so I can see a close race there. I would have been pissed off too.

I dunno, that must of been one fast wrx. Since they're awd they run easy 13's, but low 12's high 11's is quite the feat.
Has your car been dyno tuned since the last work? If not it may be running worse not better.

guys, both cars are turbo cars with built engines....it isnt anything for either car to run a ton of boost. I've seen quite a few nasty grand nationals and wrx's run extremely fast. Get a built motor and run 17psi through some longtube exhaust, change the intercooler and have at it.

677, I am in agreement with you. They could not have been stock cars. Like I said GN's are almost always built. The WRX could not be stock and run with his car. No way.

Yo don't sleep on those wrx's. Sti's or not, them cars can be quick as hell with the right set-up. I doubt it was stock. Those grand nationals are sick too. I was up in Baltimore and a bunch of ricers only race for money and wanted to race me and my buddies. My buddies all sport Sti's and wrx's. My on buddy spanked an 03 or 04 mustang bullet in his Sti. There was an old buick regal that wanted to race me but I wouldn't because.....1, he wouldn't open his hood or tell me what he had under the hood. 2, he was sporten drag radials. 3, I looked under the front fascia and I saw these big ass tubes (Turbo) i'm assuming. It came turbo stock but that wasn't stock....

Stock wrx is a low 14 car, even slower from a roll.
So one that runs with a 12.0 car, isn't just modded a little bit.

I have a 2004 WRX (stock) as well as my 1997 Saleen (na). I drive the WRX every day and, as as previously noted, it is a quick little car. It's only about 225 hp but it has nice gearing and all-wheel drive. If you get the revs right and can get into boost, it will hook-up well and surprise quite a few folks at a stop light.

It took me a while to "learn" how to drive the WRX as the turbo lag is significant at lower RPM's. I still like the torque of the Saleen though!

They are both good cars, just different.

it definitly feels a little stronger with the new pulley so i dont think its running worse, i'll be going to the track this weekend if everything plays out right and i'll have the 3.73s, rr pulley, and a jlt cai instead of the mac cai since my last time at the track...

I just thought it was almost a necessity to get a dyno tune on anything 99+ when you add anything that adds a noticeable increase in power.

don't quote me word for word on this, but i think the tuning on any hp gains is definitely for the 05 and newer stangs with the throttle by wire. plus it can be based on what chip you have in your car, as my saleen had the powerflash in it, and now it has the pro-racers package and i tune it on my laptop if need be. But mainly i need an intercooler, a snow-performance methanol inject., and a 2.8 pulley for the vortech and my iat sensor which i mounted right at the throttle body will read the temps. and increase the freaking 8 degrees of total timing( my inlet temps are in the 230-232deg. range.

port that lyshom twin screw out to the max brother, and while your at it, take the heads off and get them ported, polished, and cnc'd. then if they are still around you, you will know damn well these cars are not stock.

don't quote me word for word on this, but the 05 and newer stangs i know have to have a tune even if you swap out an air filter. the 99-up are basically like my 97 with pi heads/intake/cams and all, it comes down to what type programmer or chip you have in it. i have the pro racers package now, but i had ed clark tune it last year and made it run like a bat out of hell. i've got my iat tapped into my inlet tube right at the throttle body and it tells my sct-software/chip the temps and the computer/sct bumps the timing up or down accordingly.
