Running 275/50R17?

I've done a few searches on this size and can't really find anyone who is running this size. Tons are running 275/40R17 and 275/45R17 but i can't find anything the 50 series. I know the stock tire 245/45R17 is 25.68 inches, and the 275/50R17 is 27.83 inches, so how big can you go in the stock wheel well?

You don't want a 50 series 275. I dont even think anyone makes that size, but if they did it would look like a truck tire. Going over 26 inches will make your car more high geared and throw off the speedo and odo. If you want a 275 and a 17 inch rim then stick with a 40 series.

I think Nitto makes one in that size. Might be good if you're trying to tame really steep gears or get some extra mph, or something. Only on the back though, no way it would fit up front.

EDIT-I can't see any point where a tire that size would really be necessary.
