i just got my trick flow kit done today on a built 306 that me and my dad had done. everything works but the idle i think once i get that tuned that part should be fine but when i drive it down the road it has no power and it gets really hot any ideas??? the trick flow kit is suppose to have 350hp but right now my grand prix gtp would probably take it my 19 to 15 car lengths. and i do have the timming set at 10. and a different mass are calibrated by mass air systems with a mac cold air intake and 70mm tb. any help would be great because i cant drive it at all thanks!!! o its a 88 mustang gt converted over to mass air that i did two years ago that works fine.

the head gaskets are on right were it says front to the front. and yes it gets hot right away and i dont think its the raditor because it overheats at idel slowly. its weird. it worked on the last build up fine but not on this one.

how do i tune the car fot the best performance? it has no power base timming is at 10btc and the tps is at .98 volts fuel pressure is at 42 pounds with the hose connected. stock fuel pump with 24lb fuel injectors.

It should spin fairly easily while cold and spin very little if at all when hot. This is with the motor off and you spinning the fan by hand.

Look inside the radiator for scale buildup.
Make sure that the coolant system is "burped".
Once the t-stat opens up. Look in the radiator and see that coolant is actually flowing. If not: change the t-stat or remove it temporarily. If it's still not flowing then you need to revisit the head gasket installation mentioned above.

Your fuel pressure should be ~39 with the vac line DISCONNECTED. This will make a difference for you.

Timing and tps should be fine how they are.

Have you pulled the codes?

How well did you burp the cooling system? It sounds like it could just be an air pocket.

I got beat to the punch; vristang beat me to it. Disconnect the vacuum line and re-set your fuel pressure, you're probably running pig rich. What are you using to verify the temperature you're running at? Hopefully not the inaccurate factory gauge? Let the car come up to operating temperature with the radiator cap off, and see if you're circulating coolant. I'd be betting on an air pocket as well, since it can be a huge pain to get all of the air out.
Edit: You may want to consider a new fuel pump as well. The stock pump is only 88lph, and while adequate for a stock engine, it may be starving your engine for fuel when you get into the throttle.

when we put the coolant in we used a vacume system so there is no possible way there could be and air poket. but i called trick flow today and asked then and he asked me if i mesured my cam when i put it in and no connect the dots on the gears. i said that we just lines up the dots. he says it sounds like i need to take it back apart because there vender puntch alot of bad timming gears so i might have one thats off. anyone else have this problem. they said that they cought two there at there factory but dont know how many got out.

If they had some defective stuff come out of production they should be able to trace the serial numbers for you. There should be some marking on the box that will identify that exact unit so they can trace the production dates.
If you don't have the box then you may have to take it apart.

Did they give you a method of inspecting the gears?
