Running just x-pipe.help

My friend ordered side exhaust from year one. It was supposed to be for a 01cobra but cannot use the stock exhaust hangers for some reason. So until we work out everything and see exactly what is needed, we were just going to leave the exhaust of and leave it at x-pipe. He wouldnt drive it to much and would just go here and there until it is resolved. i assumeit would be ok to just let it run from the x pipe but friends of mine are having there doubts. Correct if i am wrong but would it be ok to just run from x pipe, at least temporarly. Also...on my 04 gt i was curious about cuttin the exhaust off from behind the mufflers and basically running dumps, because im cheap and dont want to get exhaust yet...damn school. it would probably sound better, but would it be bad for it and hurt performance. Thanks guys.

i did that for a while on my 01. i pulled the mufflers and ran the exhaust up to the stock h-pipe. shouldn't hurt. it will be louder and if it is an o/r x pipe then extremely loud. wont mess up the car all the sensors are up front within the first part of the exhaust. as for your car the dumps would add a deep tone without hurting performance or the car.

Wait...JUST running an X-pipe?? You shouldn't do this. That's puting ALL the weight of the X-pipe on the pipe flanges and manifold flanges/studs. It would be fine for a little while, but could bend/cause damage to you're exhaust. Even when doing a midpipe swap you're SUPPOSED to support the midpipe for that reason, to remove stress from the flanges n junk!

What he said. The x-pipe is ONLY supported by the exhaust manifold flange connections and the catback itself (not a very good thing, at least it shouldn't be a long term solution).
