Okay, so I have my 2 MTX subs and my 500 watt Orion amp sitting in the garage. I want to know If I could build a good box for in the house that would hold my MTX 10" sub and then could I run my amp off of my Reciever subwoofer output? Doesnt seem like a problem except how do I get poer to it? What could I use for a mpower supply? 12V is all I need right.

you cant do it,the 110V house current will fry it before you even get sound of from it.For about 100 bucks, you can buy a power supply and run a 12V system in your house

You are going to need a power inverter to accomplish this task. Even so, I don't think you are going to be pleased with the results. Good luck.

It can be done, but the 12v power supply required to run an amp of that caliber would cost about 7-10X what a simple, cheap, effective plate amp would cost. Take a look at the plate amps at Parts Express. You can get from 100- 1000 watts, and they're quite cheap. If you prefer, look also at Pro sound amplifiers. They are rack-mountable and very affordable- not to mention powerful and full-range if you need it.

Hmm. Sounds like it could be more trouble than its worth. Plus, if it woudnt sound so great anyways it really might not be worth it.

What specifically makes home theatre subs different from car subs?

The subs themselves only differ in specifications. Home subs tend to get a lot lower (for movie effects), and use the nearly standard 8 ohm impedence (though this is changing). They also don't tend to be made of materials that lend themselves to the automotive environment. Basically, they won't hold up under temperature fluctuations, moisture, extreme arid, etc. FWIW, I am using 2 JL 12w3 dual 4's in my living room. They sound REALLY nice. If you want to use those subs in the house, just e-mail MTX and they'll recommend a proper enclosure, or you can tell me which ones they are and I'll run them through the computer to see what would be a good choice.

if you have any old AT computers laying around with the switch physically connected to the power supply you can use those, you just cant turn it up all the way.

i do it like that all the time but i have a 6ohm speaker and it puts too much load on the psu. should work fine with 2's or 4's though
