Running out of gear before the end of 1/4 mile...

I have an auto tranny with 4:10's and stock tires 225/60/15's and seem to be running out of gear at before the 1/4 mile. I usually leave it in drive but then switched to over drive after I noticed, but still kept running out of gear. What is wrong? Best time 14.4 @ 97mph with 1.9 60' foots

This is on the 1989 LX

I dont see how it is possible that you are running out of motor in the quarter at 97 mph. ESP in OD. BTW you should not shift to OD at WOT.

1) What is your RPM through the lights?

2) Where do you shift at and what do you experience?

3) What is the static load hieght of the tires? (How tall are they with the car sitting on them from concrete to top of tire?)

The AOD will not shift into OD at WOT. It will just stay in 3rd.

with 3.73's i come close to running out of gear. I trap at 100MPH and that's right at the end of 3rd for me. I have slightly shorter tires so that's why.

Your only course of action really is to put a taller tire ont he rear

exactly what I was going to say.

At the same time, are you positive your tranny isn't slipping and you think you are running out of gear too soon but have your thoughts based on rpm's?
