Well i figure my car's running rich, i small gas all the time, and its strong, its in a good tune, but gets bad gas milage, my exhaust pops a lot on deceleration right after i start it, i figure thats raw fuel igniting...so if my car is running rich, how can i tell, and what can i do to fix it???

i have a similar issue. i'll probably go to autozone and rent a diagnostic tool to see if anything pops up. it's a obd1 and obd2 scanner. maybe you should try this cause you'll get your deposit back and it won't cost anything after your done.

I'd like to take my car and get a leakdown/compression test, and get diagnostics ran on the computer, check injectors, A/F...stuff like that...make sure everything is in good shape.

How much would this cost, and could this fix my running rich problem?

I'm trying to get the car checked out for free at the local vocational school they have a pretty good mechanics class with all the newest diagnostic gizmos + 3 certified master mechanics/teachers who check all the work done. I'll see what they come up with if/when they let me bring the cobra in.

First off, a really lean engine will smell too and it kinda smells like a rich engine. Unless your nose has a built-in wide band, you can't really tell for sure. No way to tell without wideband data what the engine is doing, unless raw gas is dripping out the exhaust.

Find somewhere you can take it with a wideband 02 senor to gather data to see what's happening. Run codes on the motor too. Make sure you have no vacuum leaks or airleaks in the intake piping.

Well I had the cobra checked out last night with a scanner(wether thats good enough?) It threw no codes all systems checked out, the instructor said he had a 5.0 with out cats and it smelled exactly the same "so get used to it". My cam is the other part of the equation he said" Idling is not what it's designed for" and I got another "so get used to it" or "swap it".
