There are MANY things that can cause a rich condition.

First step is to pull the diagnostic codes from the ecu. This will give you something to start from... and may even give you the solution....

Have you made any changes to the motor lately?

No changes to the motor. It's been running rich ever since I bought this car. Do I just need to get an AFPR?

Probably not...

You need to pull your codes...

jason

EDIT:
After thinking about it...
Look into the parts combo as well...
What computer do you have? Is the car a real 93 Cobra?
What injectors?
What MAF?

What is the fuel pressure set to? s/b 38-40psi at idle with vac line capped.

The codes should still be pulled though...

let us know

Ok I just pulled codes and sytem passed with engine off. Engine on I got code 18, which says a loss of tach signal. Doesn't seem like that was much help.

code 18 suggests an issue with the SPOUT.

Is the connector in place?

Code 18 - SPOUT out or wiring fault - look for short to ground in SPOUT wiring going back to the computer. Possible bad TFI. A failure of the SPOUT circuit can disable the spark advance

OK forgive my ignorance here, but what is the SPOUT and where do I find this?

SPOUT is the small connector near the distributor that you remove when adjusting the ignition timing.

TFI is the electronics module on the distributor.

In the pic at this link item 'D' is pointing at the TFI module.
The SPOUT comes off that harness, and will be located 3-6" from the TFI module.

The link you sent that shows the spout connector, is that little gray part removable?

Yes, it is removable.

That is what the SPOUT connector looks like on the sn95 cars, I believe.

Ok then I think I am missing the spout connector from the harness. How bad is that? It is a real cobra with 24# injectors, 70mm MAF and dont know fuel pressure. How can I check the fuel pressure? Do I need a special gauge?

What vristang is looking for are the part numbers off the MAF and computer to make sure someone hasn't swapped them and given you a mismatched or out of calibration component.

The computer code is on the end of the computer opposite the wiring connector. The computer is under the passenger side kick panel and takes about 15 -30 minutes to remove so that you can see the sticker.

The MAF has a sticker on top that is the calibration code/part number.

The fuel pressure has a test point on the fuel lines behind the alternator. The one in the picture has a braided line on it to connect to an under hood test gauge.

A fuel pressure test gauge can be bought or rented/loanded from most major auto parts stores.

?
Do you mean that you have an empty plug on the harness?
In other words the gray component you mentioned above is missing?
If so, you should be able to find one in a junk yard, as they were used on many vehicles.
A jumper wire should work for a temporary fix.

As for the part number verifications...
As JRichker explained, people do some odd things to these cars.
You should look at each of the above mentioned parts, just to make sure they will all work together properly.

Yeah an empty plug, the little gray connector isnt in the plug. How bad is that and what is its purpose? Should I put a jumper in there for now? I'll check for the part numbers and post them later, thanks.

Also is this the pic of my spout connector and am I missing something from it??http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/gebasgt/DSC01557.jpg

Still need to verify computer info too.

That number is correct for a true 93 cobra
I bet that the catch code on the ecu is an X3Z...

This is a bad thing
With that grey connector missing the ecu is not advancing the timing. You are constantly running the base timing, as set at the dist.

First thing to do is find a plug for that connector.
The good news is that the plugs can be found in ANY j/y that carries Ford vehicles. The plug was used in many applications...

Get the SPOUT connector in there, and see how it runs.
I think you'll be impressed

Where can I buy a new one and how much are they if I can't find one at the junk yard. Does it matter what model of ford I get one from? I'll obviously try to get one from a mustang first.
