What causes this and how do I fix it? I know I'm running rich cause you I can smell it.
There are MANY things that can cause a rich condition.
First step is to pull the diagnostic codes from the ecu. This will give you something to start from... and may even give you the solution....
Have you made any changes to the motor lately?
jason
No changes to the motor. It's been running rich ever since I bought this car. Do I just need to get an AFPR?
Probably not...
You need to pull your codes...![]()

EDIT:
After thinking about it...
Look into the parts combo as well...
What computer do you have? Is the car a real 93 Cobra?
What injectors?
What MAF?
What is the fuel pressure set to? s/b 38-40psi at idle with vac line capped.
The codes should still be pulled though...
let us know
Code 18 - SPOUT out or wiring fault - look for short to ground in SPOUT wiring going back to the computer. Possible bad TFI. A failure of the SPOUT circuit can disable the spark advance
SPOUT is the small connector near the distributor that you remove when adjusting the ignition timing.
TFI is the electronics module on the distributor.
jason
In the pic at this link item 'D' is pointing at the TFI module.
The SPOUT comes off that harness, and will be located 3-6" from the TFI module.

Yes, it is removable. The link you sent that shows the spout connector, is that little gray part removable?

Yes, it is removable.
That is what the SPOUT connector looks like on the sn95 cars, I believe.
Please address the following questions as well...
Ok then I think I am missing the spout connector from the harness. How bad is that? It is a real cobra with 24# injectors, 70mm MAF and dont know fuel pressure. How can I check the fuel pressure? Do I need a special gauge?
?Ok then I think I am missing the spout connector from the harness.
?
Do you mean that you have an empty plug on the harness?
In other words the gray component you mentioned above is missing?
If so, you should be able to find one in a junk yard, as they were used on many vehicles.
A jumper wire should work for a temporary fix.
As for the part number verifications...
As JRichker explained, people do some odd things to these cars.
You should look at each of the above mentioned parts, just to make sure they will all work together properly.

That number is correct for a true 93 cobraHere is some of the info you asked for. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/gebasgt/DSC01555.jpg
This is a bad thingAlso is this the pic of my spout connector and am I missing something from it??http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n185/gebasgt/DSC01557.jpg
That number is correct for a true 93 cobra![]()
I bet that the catch code on the ecu is an X3Z...
This is a bad thing![]()
With that grey connector missing the ecu is not advancing the timing. You are constantly running the base timing, as set at the dist.
First thing to do is find a plug for that connector.
The good news is that the plugs can be found in ANY j/y that carries Ford vehicles. The plug was used in many applications...
Get the SPOUT connector in there, and see how it runs.
I think you'll be impressed![]()
