Ya i guess so should i go ahead and replace the egr valve just to be sure everything in the system is working once i get the parts?Tad/tab solenoid and EGR vac regulator. I'm guessing your EGR isn't working
Do you think the timing is off and thats why it's running rich?Tad/tab solenoid and EGR vac regulator. I'm guessing your EGR isn't working
I just changed the o2 sensors and I just got the nova 3145 i think thats the numbers, the code reader tried to read the codes and it literally did nothing. I don't know why the code reader isn't working.
Without going back over the entire 24 posts to see what you have done or not done I will suggest:
Make sure you have a fresh tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, also check timing and air/fuel filters
Check for codes
If you have never changed the 02's or you don't know how many miles on them, change 'em.
If the car has modifications like air filter hanging in the engine compartment, this is bad.

I have a 87 so it doesn't have a MAF sensor. Also i have noticed it seems to only run rich when its idiling and if i rev it sitting still. Driving it around and even getting on it doesn't make it run rich this is just so weird. How about the MAF sensor ? Has it been cleaned ? Haven't seen anyone mention it ? My 1990 302 was running rich and cleaning the MAF solved the problem.
You can convert it but im saying that it wasn't until 89 I believe that they put maf sensors on all of them.
Hey,what degree thermostat are you running ?my mustang gt 1987 is still running very rich. I have replaced the o2 sensors which were caked in gasoline. I also put the smog pipe on the back of the engine so there will be no air leaks, ive also tightened my collectors from the headers down because they were leaking before. Now with all that fixed its still running bad, the smog system isnt hooked up and there is no cats. Please help!!!
160 i just replaced itHey,what degree thermostat are you running ?
Why do you have a 160* thermostat in an efi car??
That's wrong sir. Replace it with the stock temp t-stat, the ecu is programmed to run at the higher temp where the engine is most efficient..... believe it or not running colder hurts performance.
I truly didn't know there was a major difference that it could effect it that bad. I got it off of rock auto thinking it was right. So your saying I should switch to 195? The thing is though that the engine only seems to run rich at idle and revs while sitting it doesn't do it if im driving or get on it.Agreed.A 160* is making it run Very RICH.Computer is probably programed for a 195* . I'd install a 195* thermostat .It's a cheap fix.The hardest part on these 302s is getting ALL the air out of the system.Put one in and let us know .
I actually have the papers and I matched the part number to it and it actually turns out i got a 192 degree thermostat so that definitely isn't it. I was thinking of putting the vapor canister back on with the lines from the intake which is the main reason because I thought it might help having that line plugged in and functional because its a speed density car.Agreed.A 160* is making it run Very RICH.Computer is probably programed for a 195* .
