That's 100% correct! Make sure they don't go through the clearcoat (will be noticible in direct sunlight as whiter streakes in the finish. If they go through the clearcoat, it will require a new basecoat (white) and clearcoat. You cannot apply clearcoat over areas where the clearcoat has been over-sanded.
