I popped the hood last night and noticed that my upper radiator hose was collapsing on itself. Looked like the hose to the overflow was plugged up with a bunch of brown junk. How do you get rid of this stuff???? Ive been fighting with it since Ive had the car.

flush the cooling system....buy removing the thermostat and radiator hoses. flush water through the block and radiator both ways with a garden hose until water runs clear..install new hoses and 180*stant or mr. gasket thermostat and 70% water and 30% antifreeze.also don't be surprised if you dont uncover some problems with your motor after the flush because this brown stuff is prolly bars leak not rust that was put in there for some reason by somebody..

yes i agree probley bars leak it will be thick and clumpy people dont want to fix there leaks so they put that junk in to make the probley go away for awhile.. a co-worker pulled up to the jobsite we were working at last year and as soon as he came around the corner his truck died so we started looking and i asked how the temp looked he said that it was getting hot....but he really didn't notice it till he pulled in...so i opened up his rad and it was solid brown sludge it looked like mud in there .....it blocked the flow and seized the motor  so if that crap is in there i say flush the system...it needed to be done like every 5 years anyways...get new hoses and i would susgest a radiator too..
