RX8 owner looking to confer on DBW and ECU

As an RX8 enthusiast, I have had great deal of trouble with tuning the ECU for air/fuel, forced induction etc… due to its complexity and control of virtually every engine system (throttle, spark, fuel, variable intake system etc….)

I’ve got some ideas to get around some of these issues, but the drive by wire throttle is a bit of a sticking point. I could replace the throttle body entirely with a conventional cable setup, but the DBW system could be nice if made to work properly.

Since you guys also have DBW, I was wondering how you guys are dealing with it in terms of FI and all motor applications. I did a search, and the only thread I found was fairly old. I read on the megasquirt (stand alone ECU forum) that you guys had some solutions to this problem.

In addition, I wonder how similar our ECU’s are. Ford tends to share parts like this with Mazda. Our ECU is a Renesas 64F7055F40, it’s a fairly advanced unit that seems to be customizable to various engine types. Since we both have DBW, I wonder if we have the same unit.

I very active on the RX8 forums and we have all been struggling with this problem.

There are some piggybacks that have some effect, but mostly in tricking the computer to richen up the mixture for FI applications.

I'm really trying to lean the AFR out, which our stock computer really tries to fight with.

Rather than just trick the ECU, I'd rather just reprogram it.
