How are you getting by with emissions after your upgrades?

I have heard that the new LEV's will pass without cats, but if they look up under the car and see no cats they will not let it pass. So not too much of a big deal just replace the H or X pipe every year (lol). So what about Long tube header modifications? Do you have you stock H pipe cut and fitted to the headers and if so will that pass emmissions? Do you have to replace the headers and pipe every year (if so what a pain). Or do you have special connections to get your inspection?

i have a couple of friends who work at shops and have their inspector's license..... without them i would probably be screwed. its not hard to find a mechanic with an interest in mustangs who will slap a sticker on your car for a quick ride in a fast stang.

Here in UT it's every other year. Still, I didn't want to take the chance or have the hassel of changing out the X. Hence, catted. And I passed, so I'm legal for another two years!

here in CA, the only legal midpipe is the stock one. locally we do a visual inspection, and then a sniffer test. in "enhanced areas" they put the car on a dyno and run the sniffer on the dyno. they also hook up the ODB2 connector. basically everything on the car has to be CARB approved. we had a guy come in with a 94 S10 with a 96 LT1 with a 96 computer, and custom made long tube headers without cats. we made him take off his exhaust and decide what stock exhaust for 96, camaro, corvette, impala ss he wanted to use. the place where im working we do a thurough visual inspection, we will actually look up the block serial number to make sure there isnt an illegal motor swap. we also keep copies of a lot of catalogs, summit, jegs, scpd, etc. to look up the parts.

Depends on how the states do the checks..Here in GA no check engine light or codes .You pass,You only have to be sniffered if you are a 95 or older car..

I pass every year..

enhanced area maybe means like, higher income area? or maybe somewhere that is known for racing or something..

Just go to any bad section of town and find a place there, they almost never care. I went in with my SES light on (b/c of the o/r pipe)... they just turned the car on and told me how cool it looked and gave me the sticker, never checked a single thing... bunch of places like that, the more ghetto the place looks the better.

enhanced areas include most of LA, and the Bay Area. i think the sn diego area is enhanced as well. ill check at work tomorrow.

to answer the question about headers and stock H pipe. depends on what kind of headers you got. my bbk lt's bolt right up so if i fail my next inspection I'm swapping out the vrs for the stock h.
