Hi,
I took my chip out and took it to the tuner (Pauls Automotive Engineering)and had them put a base tune in. Then they will refine it on the dyno! (my son also works there) I need a base tune because I went to a Lightning MAF and 42# injectors. The lightning MAF is tuned by the car computer not calibrated for a particular injector. At least that was the way it was explained to me.

sorry to change the subject, but you may be able to help me a ton. i have a lightning maf as well but want to switch back to my 77mm pro-m. the problem is, i dont have the stock maf plug anymore so im stuck at the moment. would you be willing to part sell the plug from yours?

Hi,
If you have time to let things settle first would like to dyno and see how things work first, don't think it would be a problem.

that depends on your ignition and fuel setup. truthfully, if you are going to baby it to the shop, the timing doesnt really matter since you wont see any boost. more information on your setup is needed to give you an accurate answer though.

I have a 255 intank, 42lb injectors, and an msd 6a ignition. i dont plan on using an fmu. nor do i plan on using a btm.

I am a long way from an expert but here is my .02 Sounds good to me the only thing is you may need a T-rex or some kind of external fuel pump. I am not using the btm either. The reason for the FMU is mine is a stroked 347 with ported H/I, and should flow pretty good. I might try a run without it

It's Done !!

Hi,

Well installed gauges, got the T-rex wired. turned the key and it started... then quit??

As we scratched our heads and stated at the motor we noticed a couple studs sticking out ot the intake..... Oh Yeah, the EGR plate
. Engine was sucking a lot of extra air. With that small fix it started and idled like a champ. Maybe a Wed night tune .

A poor quality video is here:
http://popsfun.com/vortech/

Stills from the process there also.

Thanks Jay (my son)

DON"T DO IT! Not worth the risk. One WOT with full timing under boost is all it takes. Really. I mean it. I broke 3 pistons with 3 degrees more timing than I usually ran.

Words from one who has been there and learned a thing or two.

When you see those threads where peeps make it seem like
you just bolt a blower on your car and go.

Don't get me wrong ...... I'm all for forced induction and I will be blown someday.

I think its good to see some common sense about things to do
or
not to do when getting into a blown combo for the first time.

Well I drove it home myself and will take it to the dyno today. My son is not a young pup and he spent more time on it than I did. It would have been fine. Thanks for caring.

Hi Grady,
Were having fun all right. Plenty to talk about and a lot of time spent together!! My wife thinks it is all about the car... she is only half right Guess, will my lightning MAF be enough or will I peg it and end up with a SCT meter?? . It is just a wait and see now.

i think the meter will be all right.....there is only one way to truly find out though. i would definitely go very conservative on the tune though considering the compression ratio. good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well it didn't happen.... Drove the car to work and noticed the serpentine best had stretched and was rubbing..... OK a new best on the way over and slap it on at Paul's, no problem. Only best I could get was a belt an inch shorter, got there to short... New belt on order.... New date Friday at 3pm.. Still spent 4 hrs at the tuners looking and talking cars with my sons and the owner.
