So i have this fresh 10,000 mile 302 motor that runs GREAT and plan on putting on my brand new RPM airgap tomorrow, i allready know about the distributer process, bolt and torque specs, and using permatex #2 on the front and rear of intake, but what do i use sealer wise on the 2 side gaskets? do i use any when i replace the distributer???

dump the cork end gaskets and use a bead of silicon to seal that part. also i use a THIN coat of silicon around the coolant passages on both sides of the gasket and leave the rest of the gasket dry, or at best i use a little white grease around the intake ports, makes it easier to clean the gasket surfaces if the intake needs to be removed.

Use the gasket sealer called "the right stuff". It's what the OEM's use and its the best sealer I have ever used. Use it in small amouts around the water passages and around the water pump ssealing surfaces. Use it in place of the cork intake valley gaskets. The distributor should get an "o-ring" or flat gasket, but do not use any sealer otherwise you may not be able to rotate your distributor when you are setting the timing.
