s197 cougar

Just wondering if anyone thinks a new mercury cougar based on the s197 would be cool. modeled after the 67 perhaps.

It might be. But is there really any need for one. Ford seems to be killing some models, playing with names (Calling the Ford 500 the Taurus, for example) and who knows what to save money.
There are some who might want to see such a car and some who would buy one. But would it be cost effective? My guess is it would not be. Even Mustang sales are slipping at this point. Ford has to think clearly and not make any mistakes or take any big chances. My guess is that Ford would never consider another Cougar.

I think it'd be cool to have one, but I seriously doubt we'll ever see one. Personally, I'd love to see a new modern cougar XR-7, with some retro styling, but I don't think there are enough die hard Cougar fans to make it worth while.

Mustangs, Camaro, and Challenger have some very dedicated followers, which is part of the reason that the new S197s are so popular, and why the Chevy and Dodge will be popular. Unfortunately, I don't think there are enough people out there passionate enough to make a Cougar worth while.... Same reason that we're not going to see a new Firebird, and same reason we're not going to see another Cuda (besides the sad fact that Plymouth is no longer with us....)

I'd love to see it, but I just don't think the market is there to make it worth while. Sadly, I think that the Marauder was the last exciting car that we'll ever see from Mercury......

It would be cool to see happen, but Ford's attempt at the T-bird was some what disappointing.

I have to agree with you Bro. If Ford had had their stuff together on the T Bird, it could have been a superstar. If they had offered a T Bird with say 325 HP, a six speed, IRS, and a performance suspension, there would be one in my garage right now instead of my 'Stang. I think the latest 'Bird was the best looking car Ford ever offered-period. I damn near bought one anyway and would have tried to make it a performer, but decided on the Mustang.

That IS a damn nice looking Cougar concept. That makes me wish even more that we'd see one. The saddest part is that it wouldn't cost them THAT much more to actually produce it. So long as it performed, I'm sure they sell quite a few. But seeing as how they're not going to build a car that outperforms the mustang, I don't see it ever being built. Damn shame though...

If Ford is going to drop some money on a new project, I'd much rather see a return of the 429CJ in the Mustang. But just like the Cougar, I'm not going to hold my breath....

I just wish Ford would have carried over the tail lights from he S197 concept car to the production model. Plus I would've been totaly fine had they gone and kept it a 2 seat hatchbck as well...

i would definatley buy one. many people dont know, but my username came from cougars. bigcat is for the 1-2-3 cougars. i have owned many of them, and would love to find a 70 eliminator in good condition to restore.

for a company like that, not too hard. but the same thing will be a problem... finding enough interest to consider making the kit to begin with. if there is no money in it, they wont make it--same as ford.

i would buy another stang just to convert to that cougar! honestly, i dont think it would be too hard to make the rear with the taillights that go all the way across, i think it will just take a little creative engineering to make it work. if i had the time and the tools to custom make a taillight setup like that i would. i have the skills, but not the tools.

Pontiac's retro version looks very odd with that grill/front end Nowhere near as nice/pleasing as the Camaro.

I cant figure why a cougar would be the car for a homo. that is just beyond me. as for the trans am i think what is wrong with it is its body is 1st gen retro while the grill resembles a 79. if it looked more like the 67 it would be great looking car as well.
