s197 cougar

Concept Car

wonder how hard it would be for a company like Cervini's to make a body kit similar to that drawing.

It appears the grill and tail light treatment are off a '70. I like the '67 and '68 better, without the fugly middle grille. As for aftermarket body kits, thee problem would be in the roofline and rear quarter window. :D

Pontiac's retro version looks very odd with that grill/front end:notnice: Nowhere near as nice/pleasing as the Camaro.

That thing looks like crap!!! Just like most pontiacs do!!!

That is an awesome update on the 70 Cougar!

I had two of them back in the 80's!

Awesome cars then, and could be awesome tomorrow...

Love the hideaway lights!

:nice:

Now, if they would release the "grabber" colors with it too...

PS: Don't forget the stock sequentials!

There is some major inconsistency with this prototype. Its got the front end of a '77 and '78 but its got the body of a '67 thru '69. I would suggest the 'eagle beak' of that era. Then I would take a second look, although I am pretty spent on the bluecar.

A S197 Cougar would be easy to manufacture on the same assembly line as the Mustang. With Mustang sales fading a bit, the Cougar could be built off the same platform and pick up 20-30,000 unit sales.

I'm so sick of holden motors giving Pontiac nice cars and then watching them mess up the styling. GTP and G8 :notnice: next time gm takes a holden car have it shipped right to the dealers lot and don't bother stopping my Pontiac headquarters.

I trade my 07 stang for a s197 cougar in a heart beat, if it was luxuries mercuries always get. I had a 91 xr7 w/ 5.0 and moon roof, it rocked. However after 90000 miles i needed something new and in 2002 the only comparable replacement was the stang (comparable as in v8 rear wheel drive 2 door) Where did you guys find that image at? I think it is cool as hell.:D

I am a fan of the 69 Firebird with the "eagle beak" nose, & I will admit I like the Smokey & the bandit car, but not when theyre mixed together.

Yeah that's pretty cool. My brother used to have a G-code '70 Eliminator, it sadly didn't have the original Boss 302 but it was still a nice car, and my dad used to have a '68 XR7-G Dan Gurney Special w/ the original 428CJ. So needless to say I love the Cats almost as much as the 'Stangs.

I really like the style of that S197 Cougar!

I had a '70 XR7 as my 2nd car. Traded in my 6-cylinder '65 Mustang coupe that was my first car. The Cougar was bigger, had more power, more luxury, quiter. I miss both cars!

I think the S-197 Cougar would be a great idea. It would fill in the gap in body styles not offered by the Mustang. There is no coupe Stang and to offer one in full luxury package and also in Eliminator performance package would be completing the Stang line. Another short coming of the Stang is the joke of a rear seat. The Cougar could be stretched out just 2" into the rear seating area and along with the luxury, the older buyers could be targeted for sales.

You know Ford is wanting to screw up the Mustang and make it bigger and better to the point no one will want it - they will start with the Cougar!
