Went car shoping with the parents today (not for me though) my mom is getting a new car. She has always had her heart set on a yellow convertible. She was looking at the new saturn sky, but they can't find her a yellow one, so she decided to look for something else. We went and test drove a few diffrent cars today, but after testing out all the two door roadsters she finally decided on a 06 Honda S2000, yellow with a black top and black leather! It is a nice car, but mom won't let me drive it yet. So bottom line is what kind of performance numbers do those things put up? It has a 2.2 vtech that redlines at like 8200 or something. Can it beat my car?

It's a drivers race.

I remember that someone from a Honda site met up with someone from a Mustang site and they raced 10 times, and the Honda bested the guy 7 times or so.

The old S2000's used to pull to 9000 RPM's, then Honda backed it down to low 8k range a year or two later IIRC.

Ive seen them race, they are quick if the driver is good. If its not in the VTEC range, they are slugs... so if the driver cant keep it up there you would win IMO. Its a pretty small range though, I dont think it kicks in till around 6k or so.

After they upped the displacement to 2.2, they backed the rev limited down.

They are slugs when not in VTEC. 125 rwhp @ 6000 RPMs, then the thing shoots like a rocket.

What do they run in the 1/4? I don't think im going to race my mom, but I might not have the fastest car anymore . Im getting booted out of the garage to make it even worse. It will be an all honda garage now with my dad's acura 3.2TL the vtec's are taking over!

high 13's low 14's with a good driver, but the norm is mid to high 14s.

s2000 = mustang = 350z in terms of drag racing.

I saw a guy racing one down the track one time, running a newer Caddy or something like that. Anyway, the guy launched and spun 1st out, spun part of 2nd, and when he shifted into 3rd he didnt get it in the VTEC range and it started tripping all over itself. Took what seemed like a long time (only a few seconds, lol) to get that thing back to the VTEC and it took off again... but he'd lost the race by then.

S2ks, especially the older ones are seriously fun to drive. 1/4 miles are not what they were built for, although they can move out pretty well. Top down twisties are it's game.

Must be fun cause mom has not wiped the smile off her face yet. Her first words when she got back from the test drive was "man that was fun". She doesn't really care about performance that much she just wanted a convertible that would be good on gas.

How about a Mazda Miata for your mom....its just as fun as the S2000...has some power...handles great and is like 10,000 dollars cheaper.

Think they're of the same quality?? Honda > Mazda when it comes to quality.
