I have been perplexed by an oil use issue on 1995 S351 #111. Here is the background.

#111 was an original NA car. Roughly 2 years ago ( less than 500 miles ago) the owner sent it to a VERY reputable shop for an no expense spared addition of a Saleen sourced Vortech system with improved fuel delivery. The update is done and during testing, one piston ring edge......comes off taking a spark plug electrode with it....and, they decide that the stock internals are not the way to go! The engine is removed, and all forged internals are installed. I buy the car....

I get the car, do some timing adjustments, fuel pressure tweeking......and adjust the "air adjuster". The car is a completely different car. WOW. AF ratios are considered slightly rich, but I sleep better at night. I do not recall them at the moment, but I am not after every HP. It put down 490 at the rear wheels....that is enough.

Now, When I drive the car, it will use 1 qt of oil every 200 miles. There is no smoke. None starting up, none driving...on or off boost. The car drips NO OIL!

Yesterday I used a ASE tech to do a leak down test. It passes with flying colors! When I ask about...where is the oil going, he says, he has absolutely no clue! He says only theat the car has NO BLOW by!

So, where do I go from here?

Thanks.

Dan

My S351 used oil like that also and again no leaks or blow by. If you have no smoke I would not sweat it. 500 miles in two years you should be able to afford that extra quart and a half per year. :)

It's common for modified and forced induction pushrod cars to burn a bit more oil. A quart in 200 miles sounds like a kinda lot to me, but it's not unheard of.

Things to check would be:
Intake gaskets, leaks happen all the time and the engine burns it.
PCV valve, alot of times oil gets sucked back up into the intake, you may need some kind of seperation filter.
Valve seals is the last place to look.

Mine uses a quart about every 1000 miles. It was sucking it down the intake because the PCV system wasn't up to snuff. If your running alot of boost you may need a crankcase evac system. YOu can actually modify your smog pump to do this. If this is the problem when it got bad on my car it caused detenation. I was running a little more compression than stock and alot of boost though. 28lbs at the time and almost 10 to 1 compression.

Scott,

You're a madman. 28 psi of boost and 10-1 compression.

Dan, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Can you post a couple of good pics of your motor? I want to see your set up since it was not a factory job. Are you venting your filler tube?
