I wouldnt so fast kill or condemn the SB hang out. They cannot stop you from having coffee at moonstrucks or SB AND hanging out in parking around SB or moonstrucks if your a paying customer and not causing any problems unless the coffee shops requests it and that wont be likely if your a paying customer and not causing any problems . Other wise that would be considered harassment by the police if the establishments did't request that you be removed.

Maybe Allen's place of business?

This does not surprise me. Beaverton is not a car friendly city, with all the photo radar and traffic light photos.

It was probably someone using or wanting to use the banks ATM who complained. They may have been put off by all the cars. If the ricers started to migrate over, then it would explain it.

I wonder what would happen if everyone kept a empty SB cup in their car, filled it up with water, and held it while hanging around.

This still does not justify the bad attitude of the cop.

if you have a Starbucks coffee cup in hand, then you CAN sit in the SB parking lot for as long as you like and you can tell the cops to pound sand

soo..if weather is decent tonight then where would everyone meet?

if a cop is harassing you. Then it's simple harrassment. Perhaps a 3rd party person should video the event of the cop tryign to tally up receipts on who spent what. Then confront their supervisor or captain. Do not make a new spot. Just park closer to star bucks to establish the fact your there for coffee.

Or with the attention cops been having lately on beatings in portland confront the newspaper. They'd love to write an article on 30-40 year olds not allowed to go to star bucks on a evening because they dont' purchase enough items per person or based on teh car they drive. Especially when there are no records of any of us doing ANY violation in the parking lot. Not even a noise violation complaint has been seen by me.

Dude this is really nothing new, we were just lucky to be able to hang out for so long. I have never heard of people being able to just hang out in bussiness parking lots even with permission. We are all good people but we are not only one's that want to hang out. Remember you have the rice burners that want to hang out also, and they tent to cause trouble and be stupid, so When they get kicked out, means we get kicked out also because you can't just tell one group to leave and not the other.

Seems like a power trip to me. If everyone is drinking SB, I don't see a vaild reason to make everyone leave. I don't see any laws being broken.

This particular Starbucks franchise is in an outer corner of a larger building owned by Fred Meyer (Kroger Corporation). As such, this franchise owner rents or leases the space from Fred Meyer. So, to answer your question, neither Fred Meyer, nor Starbucks welcome our meets in their collective parking lot. This is why we moved way out into the middle of an unused lot a few years ago. It was only a matter of time before customers and owners complained.

There is no such thing as a Starbucks franchise. They are all corporate owned or a liecensed stores, that still have to abide by all Starbucks policies and standards. If the employees in the store are not Fred Meyer employees then it is a corporate run store. I can see Fred Meyer not wanting people hanging out in their parking lot, as I have worked for the company and they do not care a lot about the customer. Starbucks on the other hand has always wanted to be known as a neighborhood place where people like to come and hang out. This is the reason they put in big comfortable chairs, and make it easy for people to work on their computers. If someone has talked with the manager of the Starbucks and they do not want crowds of people hanging out in the parking lot then not much can be done. They may be willing to work with a group but I'm sure they would then want them to police themselves and make sure others do not come in and cause trouble and that is usually more work then its worth. Best bet is to find a business that wants the people their.

Really it isn't even starbucks parking lot, we were in the parking lot next to the s/b parking lot and everyone isn't drinking starbucks and because it isn't even their parking lot there is a law for just sitting in the parking lot. But It's not even us that is a problem, its the other crowds that cause trouble that destroy's it for everyone.

If there is no "no loitering" signs then i dont see how they can do what they did? Unless someone was causing trouble or being stupid (witch i doubt) of us? But then i guess if some have to go then i guess it's just right for all to. It does suck for us that dont cause trouble or do stupid stuff tho. Of the times i show up we just stand and B.S the ricers usually are the ones trying to show off and do stupid stuff. peace

Good to know. Now I am trying to remember if this one is actually licensed to Fred's....despite the obviously incorrect information in several articles I have read over the last few years. Some of the employees used to come into this particular Fred Meyer store and buy creamer, etc. when they ran out (I used to work for Fred Meyer too, it sucked). I just can't remember if they were in our orientations or not. I suppose it would be much easier to make a uniform rule for the larger parking lot, since Fred Meyer owns the whole thing. Oh well.
I suppose we will just meet at the DQ on Kinnaman road, where we meet in the summer?

no more starbucks!! Yeah you heard it.. We were officially thrown out tonight and asked not to EVER come back by the Beaverton jerk off police.. We are not allowed to be in the wellsfargo or freddys parking lot so I asked if we could go around to the fed-ex and he was a total azz and responded with " you cannot park in any parking lots unless you are conducting business and then when your done you need to leave...

For some reason they were looking at me and talking to me...

What I want to know is how the police can just throw someone out of a privately owned parking lot unless the property management actually voiced a complaint and filed a request to have any people loitering removed. I had a run in with the Hillsboro Police about a year ago with a similar incident. The outcome was different though. I told them they had no say over the matter and I would gladly have my day in court if they felt the need to cite me for anything and that I was not leaving unless management personally came to ask me to leave. I am surprised I wasn't pulled over and given a ticket when I left for whatever they could find against me.

There are more places. True, a bad apple ruins the bunch. The same is applicable for police officers too. One dickhead makes the rest look bad.

You want to know how, it's easy they approach you and say YOU MUST LEAVE.
It's that simple, and you can't do a thing about it.

They can't force me to leave private property unless management, the owner, or the leasing party requests that I vacate the premises. At that point, a return to the property would result in criminal trespass.

I can choose not to leave. Is it a good idea? Not at all and I can't stand cops who go on power trips but it happens.

The only way that issues like this can be defeated is to be able to to get together in an area where it is arranged with the owner of the property. Better yet, the owner being someone who is affiliated with the people getting together so it's easier to control who can and cannot be there. I always wondered when the Starbucks meets would have an end put to them with the kind of people that would show up outside of our group. The StangNet affiliated people have always been respectful, always cleaned up after themselves, and have never been involved with any activity detrimental to anyone. Unfortunately there ARE people who have shown up affiliated with other clubs/groups/clicks who have pulled dickhead things which also reflect on us too. Guilty by association. We'll have to see if spring/summer time is promising because I have fun hanging out with everyone.

Do we have any lawyers on here? If so, they should be at the next Starbucks meet. Wouldn't that be a fascinating conversation to listen to. The cops are generally correct in assuming that the people they bully know less about the law than they do. Running into someone who konws more could be amusing.

See the original sticky on the DQ meet location. This place is ricer free and hosts summer-long car gatherings. It is only a couple miles west of Starbucks.
