Saleen Cylinder Head Identification

Hey so I am currently in the process of finding cylinder heads and I have an uncle who says he says some that he pulled off his 89 Saleen and I was wondering if there is a way to identify them as saleen and not E7s or GT40 heads.

I'm getting these for free so I would be pretty happy if they are saleen because from what I have read they are heavily ported and super rare.

Any help would be appreciated ! I have a 91 GT with a 5.0 EFI

Most saleen foxes did not get any type of cylinder head.
89 SSC's got lightly reworked E7's from what i know.

Regardless, if you are talking fox era saleen heads they are nothing special.
Keep in mind the numbers they consider good back then (i believe rated at 304 to the flywheel) are considered low by our (modern) standards. We want those numbers at the tire. You could get 304 flywheel hp with a $250 set of explorer heads.

If they came off an early production s351 they would be edelbrocks and later they were twisted wedges. Both aluminum.

Standard E7's an normal Fox Saleen's except, SSC, SC, and SA10.

As stated, most heads equipped on 1989 Saleens are just normal E7 heads worth $20/head or so.

Did your uncle have an SSC?

Funny thing is that if you know where to look and have $850-$1200 to spend you can get one fairly easy these days. If you were to search ebay's completed sales for the last 90 days, there is like 6-8 of them that sold, the saleen forums always have them too.

What's also is kinda odd is that there is a few versions of it. One in particular sells for mega bucks.

I actually don't know what kind he had, he has owned over 20 different foxes and he had 3 Saleens.

Either way they are a free set of heads to my overheated and warped ones....

You must have gotten the heads pretty friggin hot to overheat and warp one. The gaskets usually go long before the heads do.

When you get the heads, flip them over to where you're facing the combustion chambers. The part number should be on the rough cast area on the intake side.

I wouldn't get my hopes up that they're anything more than stock though.

As Brian said, it takes a tremendous amount of heat to warp iron heads. I would check the deck for straightness before proceeding any further. If you warped the deck then it will never seal without machining.
