Saleen Underdrive Pulley set install issue (alt. pulley)

I just took my vehicle into the dealership to get the set of Saleen pulleys which I bought installed (as the dealer is usually really good about warranty issues so long as they install the part, therefore for ease of mind I just asked them to install it) and the dealer brought up an interesting issue. They said that there is a problem installing the alternator pulley as I have a one-way alternator on my mustang, while I guess there are some mustangs that have “two way” alternator which can have the alternator pulley changed. That being said the dealer told me that with the “one way” alternator (which was put in some later 2006 models to decrease vibration and noise) the alternator pulley cannot be changed, is this true? Have you run into this before and do you have any suggestions?<?***:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

Unrelated but, I am in Edmonton too. Which dealer are you dealing with?

It was koch, although they haven't been known for they performance accessories they are starting to carry quite a number and I've been impressed overall with them (until this issue).

I put underdrive pulleys on my 91 and to have the right power the RPMs had to be kept about 1200 or above. I didn't like how the lights would be dim when I stopped the car and the battery didn't receive a full charge. Shortly after that I had 4 alternator failures untill I left teh stock pulley on the last one, which has lasted me 7 years.

Do the 07's with pulleys do the same sort of thing???

Does the Saleen pulley kit come with three pulley's?

I have the Steeda pulley kit and it came with a water pump pulley and balancer pulley.

I have the Steeda setup on my 06 which has two pullies - crank and water pump. Is there going to be a problem with the alternator?

I used the saleen 3 pulley syst and no problems. Ofcourse mine is an 05 though.

ok so here goes, i am getting posted to wainwright alberta. I will obviously have to bring my car into edmonton to get work done, any suggestions? and are there any that are mod freindly?

Well, This looks like its becoming an Edmonton thread. I bought mine at Freedom and the have a aftermarket store that sells alot of mods including superchargers, you might want to give them a visit.

Wow, as stated, an Edmonton thread..... Freedom Ford has a division dedicated to performance parts. They install them too. I haven't had anything done there but Ray in parts advised me that they were mod friendly.

I bought from Waterloo and had them install my Magnaflow Magnapacks. The are doing Roush installs and they have a fella who is sourcing aftermarket parts.

If I needed work done, I would call them both (but know what you are talking about ahead of time). A guy I know just had a Whipple installed at Freedom.

Whatever you do do not go to City Ford. They are not mod friendly (but at least told me that).

Well I spoke with someone at Saleen and they are telling me that the tool is a standard Ford tool to change the alternator pulley, they include it with their supercharger kits, but do not have a ford part number or any other info regarding the tool. Does anyone know of a part number? I spoke with the fellow at the dealership and he's looking into it, but just in case he gives me the same answer as before (not being able to find any more info etc.) I'd like to have something to tell him. If anyone knows the tool I'm talking about let me know.

hmm i wonder how that would go over in the service dept. if I were to put it that way haha

Anyone have another name for it? Or a picture of it, if you bought the saleen supercharger kit you should have it, just a thought on the slim hope that I could tell the parts guy First step: Find this, Second step: Use it haha.

I guess I am entering this thread a little late, but I have the answer for you.
I run the SALEEN pulleys on my "06. I purchased them from e-bay and I called SALEEN's tech department (the phone number is on their web site www.saleen.com) I have ordered parts from them before so I was in their computer and the tech sent me the part for free. It didn't come with an invoice or anything so I don't have a part number but like I said if you give them a call they are always willing to help a customer out, in my experience with them. Hope I helped.

hmm really, I did call and they said it would be about $69 but that they are out of stock, usually just send then with the charger kits :S

I think thats what I'm going to have to end up doing, I was hoping I could get the dealer I started with as I already paid them for it, that being said they've been really good and said that they will give me a credit, but its still a pain in the butt; why does it always seem to take 2 visits to fix one problem/add one part? haha

I took my 07 Gt to a speed shop in Pa. The guy told me that the Saleen pullies I gave him to install werent the right ones for the car. He said the alternator pulley was the wrong pulley and it didnt look like the others would fit either. What the heck is going on? I'd install them myself but I need some expert advice as to step by step what to do? thanks

The Guy that told you that is full of it I installed them myself, (like I wrote above) after I called saleen and had them mail me the tool. It's just an adapter that will fit to any 1/2'' drive. If you pull the plastic cover from the front of the factory pully you can see what it will look like. I also went to the local dealership where I live and the HEAD mech told me that I would have to order a new alternator with out the pulley on it I said to him "so you’re telling me that the co. SALEEN is buying all brand new altimeters for their S281's, he replied and I quote "they must be" I said all right pall...then went home and called saleen.
