Help me out guys,

Saleen re-vamped their website and removed the information stating they start with the Mustang GT and work from there.

I've got this guy on another website that is 100% stubborn and believes without a doubt that they use the V6 base, strip it down, sell the crap back to Ford and then rebuild the cars.

I'm trying my hardest to be polite and show him facts without Flaming the hell out of him.

Let me get this straight....this guy thinks they take a V6, strip it down to nothing, sell the parts back to Ford, buy the GT parts from Ford, put all the GT parts on, add some of their parts, then sell it?? Does he have any idea how dumb that sounds?!?! I guess Roush starts with a V6 too then??? All Saleens were once GT's, other than the Saleen Cobra of course. What an idiot.

I think they did that with the S351 but not the S281.

I noticed that as well. I was talking to my brother and trying to point out this exact same thing. There used to be some type of verbage that alluded to that fact, but I couldn't find it anymore.

Actually he's right, except they only buy those "special edition V6s" with factory dual exhaust, 17" wheels, wider rubber, rear spoiler, and 2 extra cylinders. what a tard.

That is correct, they DID do that with the S351's until 2000. But the S281's are just modified GT's. You can tell by the badges. S281's all have GT side emblems, S351's all had V6 side emblems.

That is correct. I found the answer here: http://www.saleenexcitement.com/Saleen/MuscleMustangFF/MuscleMustangFF.html

and other places.

The S281 is GT based.
The S351 is a 351 CI supercharged pushrod. Since they swap the engine on it, they do in fact purchase V6 mustangs and sell the **** back to Ford. (odd but whatever floats their boat)

The subject was the S281 not the S351. And that is what started it all.

I'd imagine it's cheaper to buy a v6 to strip out all the parts anyway. All you really need is the base frame and body, then go to town with the 3rd party Saleen parts, and of course crate an engine in there.

Didn't they use the V6 models for the S351 because of the weight difference also. I've read that in the saleen book somewhere.
