that is correct. only the S351's began as V6's.

Simply because with that motor they were needing to replace the entire rear end, and motor, and it was cheaper that way.

That is correct, they DID do that with the S351's until 2000. But the S281's are just modified GT's. You can tell by the badges. S281's all have GT side emblems, S351's all had V6 side emblems.

Actually, newer S281's have S281 badges, no GT badges. The only factory badge is the blue oval on the trunk lid.
